A Reason why Nintendo isnt selling well in Australia
« on: July 29, 2003, 12:21:29 AM »
I work at Harvey Norman (Rip of people) in sales. Anyway we see the Sony and Microsoft reps quite often they bring the new games and all that sort of stuff and new advertising banners and posters.. all that sort of thing and they come here about once every few months. Ive been working there for over a year and not once has a Nintendo rep EVER been into this particular Harvey Norman. I guess Nintendo is underfunded or somthing but it is partly their fault. Ive also asked some people who have worked there longer and they have had 1 rep in 2 years.

Yeah, but thats not the only reason. Nintendo Australia are probably the worst company in the world at marketing. All they do is... actually what do they do? They f*cking suck. They release games for us, which end up limited in supply or overstoked, they dont advertise them, they are usually left to sit on a shelf that no-one will ever see. Im f'ing pissed off with Nintendo Australia, they suck ass. The day they pull thier heads out of thier f**king asses is the day i.... made a really shocked face. Yeah. Nintendo Australia, go screw yourselves.

They sure know how to rally the masses when it comes to competitions though. When that Pokemon thing was on, for me, it was like there was nothing Nintendo could do wrong.
Then I went home..........

NIntendo was soo coool back at the start of the N64. Then it's been a decline since then.
I have no idea how low they are now.

No profit = no advertising.

Australia just isn't that big.  Sony and MS are willing to spend scads of cash just to take the title of most consoles sold, while Nintendo sees it this way.  They sell about the same amount of stuff in Australia in a month as they would sell in North America in a couple of days.  Why not spend a ridiculous amount of money on advertising where there's actually a chance of selling some stuff?  Advertising in Australia would be counterproductive, as even if the advertising was a smashing success, there wouldn't be a big improvement in profit.

Nintendo would rather that word of mouth carried their product.  I mean, it pretty much goes without saying that the GameCube has a great lineup, while the Xbox's is questionable.  I mean, can NOAus really help it if the average Australian is fooking retarded?  (No offense to Australians present here)

ahahhaha. non taken.
i guess that's a good reason, but get this....NAL have actually gone out and said that they KNOW the GCN isn't doing well here, and should have been more aggressive at launch. So not only did they say that GCN wasn't doing well, they actually took the blame too for not getting it out to the masses!
I have to admit though, when Nintendo DO advertise with all their heart and soul, it's actually BETTER than Sony, so I'm looking forward to the time when that happens. Hopefully for next generation.

Sony always seems to do funny.  It strikes me as odd that sony advertises with large costumes and stupid jokes, and Nintendo goes with the whole "cool" and "really good" advertising, yet Nintendo is still "kiddy"

Bah.

NIntendo's ads now are actually quite slick and cool.
I think their funniest one was for the first Mario Party game on N64. It had some kids playing 4player, and some police come around, and take Mario away, and he's like "but its-a me.......Mario!" and one fo the cops says "yeah, save that for the judge". Haha. it was an american one, but it was on here.

Sony's ads are quite funny to watch. BUt most of them are quite pointless.

i think ive only ever seen 1 ad, that was for sly cooper. ive actually seen more nintendo adds ;P which means in the small amount of tv i watch nintendo is aiming their adds at the right audience (me)

but its a simple fact, most australians are morons. if its a licence game or it has something todo with V8 Super cars its a guaranteed seller, superman 64 topped our charts -__-

I haven't seen a nintendo ad for years.  I'd say the last ad I saw was for Poke'mon stadium 1.  But I've never ever seen any ad for the actual system, (except the game boy.)

When The gamecube dropped, it was advertised alot, alot of hype, Mario running around at the football grand final
After that it died down, we have seen Mario, Zelda, Pokemon and DK country ads...compared with socom and camera toy (whatever its called)....Ads have been fine, the fact we got a live action zelda ad was cool.
But with the Reps, thats whats killing us, esp the line "xbox is 3times as powerful as a home computer" which I heard 2 different MS reps say...and yeah middle aged moms believe that rubbish

since u work at harvey norman, its quite funny how users here post the rumors about harvey norman hating nintendo and not getting anymore games in for the last 6months, funny how they got nba street 2 in
ppl will believe anything
