And it is STILL not my turn. I think I should win if I can play the entire game without ever getting a turn!
You're not the only one. Mop it up and Silenced haven't seen any action yet so far either.
Cananda has their Thanksgiving earlier, because of the early harvest. Black Friday is the same though, right?
Black Friday is a manufactured US holiday designed to induce mindless consumer spending on a mass scale in a celebration of corporate financial success. So, yeah, it's the same in Canada.
Although, it is limited. For years, there was never any mention of Black Friday in Canada even though Canadians were aware of it happening in the states. However, for awhile, the Canadian Dollar ended up being on par or slightly higher than the US Dollar. Because of this, Canadian consumers were beginning to get outraged at having to pay more for goods when this happened and many began crossing the border to buy in the US. Events like Black Friday further drew them over the border to buy. Because of this, many Canadian retailers began lowering their prices to compete and began adopting the sales routines of the US. As such, they started advertising Black Friday deals and celebrating it by offering sales like the US. It was the first time I ever recall Canadian Retailers actually using the term Black Friday in their advertisements and specifically having sales that same time as the US.
However, with the fall of the Canadian Dollar to the US Dollar in the past couple years, prices on goods have risen back up and the whole Black Friday sales celebration has become a bit more muted. Not many Canadians are travelling across the border for US Black Friday sales since the high exchange rate negates most bargains and the Canadian Retailers know it and don't have to offer much for sales although they are limited themselves in what they can mark down because of the exchange rate for the goods they bring in. Even though there are flyers and advertisements for Black Friday this weekend, there's not a lot for great deals when compared to the US offerings so, to me, it is once again not that big of a thing.
