I knew I left this thread lying about somewhere.
So, in the recent Stratos Mafia hosted game, (which all the really cool and top notch posters of NWR participated in along with Insanolord and pokepal148 whose moms made us include them,) near the end of the game, I made a reference to:
the Runner-Up Award Winners of the 10th All-Japan High School Super Cup Dance-Off - the Tomioka Prefectural High Dance Troupe from Osaka,
Now, this is a real thing which I found because I was trying to come up with odd and hopefully funny choices of who my character might be mailing with her random thoughts. Now, I'm not sure if anyone looked it up but I do think their routine is worth checking out. I'm not sure what I looked up to discover them but this is the first video I saw which shows some bits of their routine.
Personally, when I saw it, I loved it instantly and I was rather disappointed in the clips of the actual winner they showed after the runner-up. Scrolling through the comments after, it appears most of the other people who have seen this video seem to feel the runner-ups were better so I figured I'd reference them over the actual winners myself.
Anyways, their routine called "Bubbly Dance" can be seen in full in this video which seems to be a clip of a Japanese show of some kind of talk show like The View but more Japanese. It kind of follows and highlights the group. You can see the routine at around the 2:34 mark if you just want to skip to that. It also shows their reactions when being announced as the runner-ups and it's interesting at how the panel of people watching seem to be shocked by this.
I'm not sure if this is considered a bit of dancing scandal or not but, whatever the case, their dance resonated with a lot more people and has become a bit of a viral sensation in Japan. They're success is touched on a bit
in this article from The Japan Times and Warner Music Japan then hired them to help promote The Greatest Showman movie before it opened in Japan by having them
learn a new routine set to one of the movie's songs. So, a lesson for us all that good dancing will not be denied.
The power of dance!
