I'm getting a Gamecube in a few days and while browsing eBay I saw fans for the Gamecube. So my question is, does anyone have porlbmes with overheating that theirs would require a fan?

It shouldn't overheat- the only way you could get it to do that is to put the the vents flush up against a wall and the system has little wings that prevent that. You should be just fine.

The Gamecube is built like a tank, so you shouldn't have much to worry about.

Anyone else see the video where the guy tied his GC to the back of his car and took it for a drag race, and found that it still worked afterwards?

Hehe- I've heard of a guy who lost his GBC in the snow for a year. When he finally found it he discovered both it and the Pokemon cartridge inside worked perfectly. I know that's not about the Gamecube, but it's a testament to how well Nintendo products are built.

A friend of mine's dog crash into a table with his N64 on it and sent it flying through the air. Needless to say, it worked fine.

I accidentally dropped mine from about 4 ft and it made a load crack sound. I hooked it back up thinking there is no way its gonna work, but it still worked fine.

My GCN overheaded once, well at least thats what I think happened. I just shut off for no reason. It was still in the on position, but there was no power. I turned it off for 10 minutes tried it again and it worked fine. I was really close to the tv, so I think the fan couldnt get enough air. I moved it a little away and it has had no more problems.

Botton line, you really have to work hard to break a Nintendo product.

Never had my cube overheat, and I have definatly put it through the paces.

I dropped my cube down the stairs once while trying to move it to my bedroom. It hit every stair...........but it worked. I dare you to try that with an X-box on a 20 step staircase.

Sorry, but I like both our staircases intact....I need them to get down to the kitchen. I'd rather not have to jump over a big hole all the time

I was walking around on the top of a very large building, and I hurled my GCN off the edge. It cracked into an old lady and split her head apart, landed on the ground, and a dump truck ran over it.

I jumped off the building and landed on the remains of the old lady. I picked up my GCN and plugged it into the wall. My house exploded, followed by the world, because the AC adaptor was broken. Anyway, I got a new one on Mars, and it worked. I played some Tetris Worlds, which then caused its death.

Glad you are okay, and mine has never overheated to an extreme but the sides have been warm before when the air conditioner wasn't on.

my cube has performed perfectly, only thing ever gone wrong with it was when playing simpsons road rage (more like simpsons load rage) after a road rage it sort of went off, and i couldn't restart. i think it was crying out in pain at having to play such a poor game, too bad for my cube i kinda have low standards

There's a woman at work who has two kids of her own. They had been bugging her for an Xbox for like a year or so. When she was telling this story, I kind of kept my mouth shut, as it's not really my place to say that the Xbox sucks in that situation. But then she said that her kids were over at a friend's house who had an Xbox, and he said that the Xbox would overheat after about 20 minutes of playing, and then her kids decided that they wanted a GameCube instead.

At this point I flashed her a thumbs up, as I was counting money in the till at the time. She noticed, and asked me if I had a GameCube. I told her I did, and had it since launch. She asked me if I ever had problems with it of any kind, and I simply answered "No.". She then mentioned her kid's PS2 which died because of a bad lens. I laughed and told her that was a very common problem among Playstations. When the subject of the Xbox came up again, a girl who works there (about 20 - 23 years of age), agreed with me when I said the Xbox was the worst console ever made. She said that a lot of people had been saying that recently.

For whatever reason, sales of the Xbox in Canada have been extremely high, and I think that in proportion to the US, the Xbox is even more popular here. I think that the Xbox's 15 minutes of fame is about over. Empty promises have a habit of coming back to bite you in the ass, and I think MS might be finding that out.

Gamecube seems to be the flavor of the season, especially where I live. I walk into EB, and there is Nintendo stuff everywhere, with everyone saying "Whoah! Play Gameboy games on Gamecube? Whoah! Metroid? Whoah! Zelda? Whoah!" I imagine it'll stay that way until Christmas, with all the software coming out.

Though, I have been drooling over the Xbox lately. Only for Knights of the Old Republic, though, and that will be on PC in October... Be strong. Be vigilant.

Man, the graphics in Knights are bad...whats up with that. High profile star wars games like Jedi Knight II and Rogue Leader had great graphics...oh well, gameplay is still there, can't have it all...

Well, KOTOR was original a PC game, and nearly all ports, regardless of platform, lose some graphical quality. JKII on the Gamecube didn't look nearly as good as it usually does on the PC.

I've dreamed of a Jedi RPG for years and years. As a result, I always play Paladin in D&D. When Baldur's Gate was out, I used some mod tools to make a custom Jedi class and a lightsaber. When Neverwinter Nights was released, I downloaded the glowblade mod first chance I got. That's how much I've wanted to make my own Jedi. From what I've played on the Xbox version, I've been given what I wanted, and am happily waiting for the PC version.

As for bad graphics, my Jedi roleplaying is limited to Neverwinter Nights mods right now, with KOTOR looking a lot better then NWN. You take what you can get.

Aero, sales of the Xbox have been slumping, and I am finding fewer and fewer people who truly support the system. It's because of that that I feel some confidence about what I say.

I still remember the ol' NES system and its sturdy construction. I must have dropped the system a 100 times and it still worked. And I also whipped the controller at the floor and wall out of pure frustration a million times, and it still kept on ticking. I would not do that to my Wavebird though it is too precious to me but I bet it could take it if I did.

As far as the GC overheating just keep the vents clear, both the intake and exhaust and it should be fine.

Note: Actually instances of system drops and controller whips have been exaggerated. I love to speak in hyperbole.

on the subject of controller throwing, allways try to keep a crappy 3rd party one on hand, they are usually bigger and heavyer than 1st party ones, and they dont matter if you break them

Another thing you could do is wrap your controller in protective foam.
