CowBoy Bebop:The Movie.
« on: July 19, 2003, 01:31:22 PM »
This is an amazing movie on so many levels. Its style and flair is really shown and is taken to the next level. Watanabe had most of the boundies of a normal half hour show taken away, without the boundies of he made bebop the way it was meant to be. I know theres some fans on the forums who also enjoy Bebop and other animes like myself. Step aside disney, bandi and sunrise have made the a movie that brings the tv show justice. Ive been watching bebop for about a year, and when cartoonetwork took cowboy bebop of the air, I had to find the movie. Give your opinions or complaints. Keep spoilers to a minimim.
I need to pray about it

This is one awesome movie.  While I don't generally like anime paticularly much, this is my favorite show of all time.  The movie certainly did it justice.  The art is great, music great, plot great, action great, script great.  All around good.  I give dis movie a 10 outta 10.  I'm definitely going to buy this DVD.  And all of the episodes, sometime, too.  There are also a few mangas, three of which I've already read.  I don't want to sound like a fanatic (though I suppose I do anyway), but this is a really cool series.  And the movie.  Yeah.

Ditto. It still holds up today, which is due largely in part because much of it's inspired by themes familiar to Westerners. Some criticized the movie for being one long episode (which it was) but i love it regardless. i only wish there was more to CB after the "XX" episode; i really hate to see it end.

I've never watched the show though I've been thinking about renting the movie.  Does the film require me to know about the characters ahead of time or will I be able to watch it cold and get what's going on?

No, the movie actually takes place towards the end of the series, although you'd never know it without a knowledge of the series. The movie stands on its own, although it is recommended that you watch the series before the movie to get a better understanding of finer points.

Never seen ANY of the series, yet i just watched the movie.  You don't need any prior knowledge of the series, except that at the begining I was confused about who was who and what their names were.

I must say, this was one of the best movies I've EVER seen.  This doesn't happen much, but I never wanted the movie to end.

As Hostile said, everything about this movie is great.  The animation, music, characters; everything.  I also want to but the DVD of the show, becuase I've never seen it, but that's after i have more money.  I absolutley LOVE this movie, and I think it's much better than Princess Mononoke, which WAS my favorite anime, as seen by my avatar.

Oh yeah, I want to grow up to be like Edward.

Edward = one of the best anime characters ever(though I DO have a long list )

I was impressed with the movie on several levels and it does what most anime series(like that garbage DBZ) don't do, and that is go on a very emotional level.  Also, who else liked the song that Faye was playing at the beginning?  I've rewound back to it many, many times.

(and the movie takes place about 5/6 through the series)

I too concure that Cowboy Bebop is a great show and an awesome movie.  Unfortunately since it was shown at like 2 in the morning i was not able to watch about half the series. (go taping!)  However, I did watch the final episode which i know wish I didnt seeing how i knew next to nothing about the story leading up to it.  Nevertheless that espisode was excellent as well.

Best episode: "Ballad of Fallen Angels"

The music that plays at the end of the fight scene(deemed Green Bird) makes it a very memorable anime episode indeed.

Is that the one with the tribal elder speaking to a boy (was it a boy?) about the fall of a great warrior?  If it is, then yes i agree that music was incredibly cool.

The song you're thinking of is from episode 13 (can't remember the title off hand). It's called "Space Lion". "Ballad of Fallen Angels" was the fifth episode.

The song Faye is listening to is called Cosmic Dare: Pretty with a Pistol.  Or something along those lines.  Green Bird is a great song. . . my friends have fun listening to it and making fun of it and stuff.  If you ask me the name of a song in Cowboy Bebop, chances are about 80% I'll give you the right answer. I like de music.

I could never pick a favorite episode, but Ballad of the Fallen Angels is very cool.
