We've only had 14 seconds of Zelda Wii U gameplay in a year!
« on: December 07, 2015, 06:21:35 PM »
HOW THE HELL IS THIS OK?!?!?  Yes, a rational person will say that the game is probably 6-9 months away at the very earliest so be patient. Others say "waiting for the NX side port" I haven't picked up XCX yet so forgive me but this has been a really shitty holiday for Nintendo with 2 of the big 3 titles delayed to next year. We still got some solid looks at Star Fox even with a 6 month delay. WHERE THE HELL IS ZELDA!?!? HOW THE HELL IS THIS OK?!?!

Zelda is their ace, can't go flaunting it about or else it wouldn't be an ace anymore. My guess would be that the next time we see Zelda is in March after the investors meeting like they did with Pokemon Alpha Sapprire/ Omega Ruby.

I think we'll get more info with the revamp of the Nintendo Directs.

Just forget about those 14 seconds you've seen already so that when the game resurfaces as Zelda Amiibo Festival, you'll be even more amazed!

Well, that last blip with the hooded Link they showed would seem to indicate that the delay wasn't due to a massive art change or redesign, so I'm guessing there's something else afoot that they waiting to debut. Cynically this would be an integrated feature of the NX that would not be present on the gimped but still existing WiiU version.

Worst Case Scenario:  The game just wasn't coming together to be as enjoyable as they wanted.  Having a big world is one thing, having a big world that is fun to explore is quite different.  Also, you can't just fill an open world with enemies to kill...you have so have more to make the world truly seem living...maybe this was turned more difficult to accomplish in a Zelda like game.

Best Case Scenario:  Nintendo looked  at what they were doing and realized they needed more time to make it perfect, big epic world.  The need for several Dungeons.  Possible exploration of Dark World and Light World...this game will need to have the scale and number of dungeons to fit the massive world.  Perhaps more mini dungeons will be implemented which would actually be a good idea...or mini challenges requiring exploration and item usage.

Middle Case Scenario:  The game is being Twilight Princessed and being released for NX and Wii U...in this case we will see very little of it until we know more about the NX.

It just baffles me to think how willing Nintendo was to flaunt it a year ago now when it won't be coming out until this time NEXT year.

You guys know I'm far from negative but it feels as if something catastrophic happened with the game. I hope I'm wrong.

This is par for the course with Nintendo unveiling console Zelda titles. It shows a teaser then trickles out details for the next couple years. There's a pretty good possibility that Nintendo went back to the drawing board at least once which makes me wonder why it ever thinks it's a good idea to show games so early. I've long been opposed to this type of hype tactic, from any company, not just Nintendo. Too many things can change or go wrong with game development. I'd rather not see anything about a game until like six months until release, and even then, that doesn't guarantee it releases on time.

I realize there's pressure from executives and stockholders. That's the problem though. I still don't like hearing about a game I can't play for years.

I just think this particular Zelda cycle was exacerbated by Nintendo trying to save Wii U sales. They showed something they were not ready to show, hence us going over a year with nothing but off-screen footage.

Pretty much.  It's like how for E3 2009 they just showed that poster for Skyward Sword because they didn't want to reveal footage yet and even for it's grand unveiling at E3 2010, the footage and demo were a few bits of gameplay from the first forest area with some early dungeon elements in because the real game was still over a year away.  Back then they could get away with it since the Wii was a sales monster and they already had Twilight Princess at launch so the new Zelda wasn't exactly a huge selling point the console needed anyway.

The footage we saw at E3 2014 for this game was probably of a game that design wise was at a similar spot Skyward Sword was in 2009.  But because of the Wii U's terrible hardware sales, Nintendo decided to show more then just a concept poster because they needed anything to help make the Wii U look better.  So this year the game was more then likely around where Skyward Sword was in 2010, which was still pretty early which is why we got no real footage except that few second to say it's still a Wii U game as well.

I imagine Nintendo wants this games real unveiling where the title is announced and everything to be a huge event since it's the first open world Zelda and the NX version is probably that systems biggest core game at launch.  Nintendo basically want to be able to control the hype for this game and after it's early teaser footage last year, they want to make sure the next real look is when enough of the game is done enough to give people the impression Nintendo wants them too when they see the first open world Zelda.  They'd rather have people be angry for a year that they haven't seen any new footage that they imagine will be exciting, then people being angry that the footage they saw didn't look very exciting.

what if they do like Twilight Princess and release the game on both consoles but they change art styles Wii U gets the cartooney Zelda to go along with Wind waker and the whole Wii U theme, and NX gets the real, hard core Zelda that will convince gamers NX is the real deal and they are withholding new footage to avoid a repeat of Wind Waker's original reveal.

I figure it would be a lot of work to make the two games look different. But then it would make it more enticing for people to double-dip.  If the NX is backwards compatible then NX owners might buy both if they're both distinct enough.  I figure it would just be like Twilight Princess though.  Or worst case scenario is that Miyamoto up-ended the tea table because he wants more forced Amiibo or touchscreen usage or some dumb gimmick like that.

This is such a cash grab idea but what if Nintendo did the MGSV route and had a smaller Zelda for the Wii U as a "prologue" and then the full Zelda later for the NX?

The trailer from 2014 is one of if not the best looking game I've ever seen. Unless NX is doing it 1080p60 even still  it might not make a difference. NX would have to be a beast of PS4 plus level to make a difference in the visuals, to me at least.

How hard would it be to change a few textures really? I was half-kidding though. Honestly I am worried this game is going to be too big.

I thought Kojima did that because he was low on funding.

Even so, I hate that idea and I hate that we actually entertain the thought nowadays. I also think that the trailer was not an actual representation of the game considering everything we've seen since has been faded, murky, and stretched out since then.

I figured they were waiting until April before they reveal anything new about Zelda. Not sure why but I felt like April made more sense. Like they would reveal a big trailer on April first and then everyone would go nuts trying to guess if it was an April fools joke but Nintendo missed the joke because they don't know or care about April fools.
