It's a very good game.  It has a short learning curve, crashes are great, damage is shown, controls are good, and it has a good rise of difficulty.  I don't feel like writing a whole lot, so for $40 it is well worth it.

You should really do some independant research.  All of the questions you've asked are pretty basic, and reading a couple of online reviews would answer them all.  I've provided links to reveiws from three major video game websites.

I got it and I felt a little disapointed. I'm not really into realistic racing games to begin with, so I traded it for PSO a week after I got it. Which was plenty of time to do everything there was to do inside the game, and I felt no reason to play it again. I heard that the Crash Mode was really addictive and fun, while it wasn't really either.

But hey, don't let me get you down. You might be really glad, but if you're unsure, I'd suggest renting first. (I should really learn to take my own advice)

In my opinion, Burnout 2 is worth it for the crash mode alone. Easily the best racer on the Cube yet, and probably will be up until F-Zero is released. It has all the great features of realistic racers but still retains that arcadey exaggerated stylings of non-realistic racers- I'd recommend it to any racing fan.

It is a good racer all round and if your hardcore about it like me, you can unlock everything in about 3 days. It is fun and crash mode is a very nice touch. The only real flaw with this game is the lack of options. eg, A,I, cars/strenght, more than two weather conditions, laps, 2p arcade mode would have been nice, night/day, booast on/off, handicap(although by chossing different cars).

A solid game but held back by lack of options. a solid 8/10

Well, actually if you don't play it for 72 hours straight, it will last you a good while.  If you want good ol' powersliding, car racing, Burnout 2 is the best on GC.
