I'm sure we've all heard of it but I want to know everyone's opinion. My personal opinion can be seen here:

I agreee it doesn't matter that much, but we DID get Burnout from them, which is an incredibly awesome series. Anyway, Acclaim's not cutting all support, just scaling it back heavily, although most of the support we got was, as Hawke put it, half assed PS2 ports.

This is a quote from the European market that's really been blown out of proportion.  As far as I know, it has little or nothing to do with the US market.  And as many have said before, their low sales are their own fault.  Shipping product late and in limited quantities with no advertising = low sales.

Go to GameSpy.com and read their article entitled "25 stupidest moments in game history."  There are some bits concerning Acclaim that you have to see to believe.  It makes me glad that the sleave-bags at Acclaim will no longer be making games for our fine system.

Heh.  I did just that.  here's a link for the lazy people who don't want to find it themselves.

Check out the Donkey Kong article for a bit about Nintendo.    I am still reading, but that's the best I've seen yet.

EDIT:  As I continue reading it, I am seriously starting to wonder about the people who wrote this.  One of the dumb things involved Nintendo's decision to use carts instead of CDs on the N64, and the next one involved the stupidity of putting CD-ROMs on underpowered hardware.  It seems like these guys don't know their asses from a hole in the ground to me.  Screw that list.  I am removing the link.

Poly: That's the same as in the first post. Except it's direct and therefore against the forum rules.

Ninja: Number one was Atari busting a deal with N to manufacture the Famicom stateside. You just have to accept they deal out against everybody and that N had its stupid moments.

KDR, I accept that Nintendo made some pretty dumb ideas.  The Playstation is one of the stupidest movements in history I think.

What I disagreed with was their placing differences in philosophy in the dumb idea category.  The Perm mentioned one such case.  Who are they to say that it was a dumb idea to put only 4 buttons on the GBA?  And the lighting "problem" with the GBA was a result of Nintendo's desire to make sure that your batteries lasted longer than a Game Gear's.

Romero is an idiot, but the article on him was completely retarded as well.  Atari also made their workplace like a party house WAY back in the day, and it worked well for them.  Ion Storm got into trouble because Daikatana sucked, not because they spent a lot of money on their workplace.

The thing is that hindsight is 20/20, and the article uses hindsight a lot to say that people made dumb ideas at the time, but I find that many of the ideas were good in principle at the time.

and damn, i had a game gear myself and the batteries only lasted 2 hours...and you used 6 of them! 2 batteries for a sytem with way better graphics and 20+ hours of battery time is awesome if you ask me.

A lot of people come down on Romero for Daikatana, but they forget not only his immense contribution to the entire industry (along with Carmack) in the form of Doom, but also the game Deus Ex, by the same Ion Storm, no less. Yeah Daikatana was a huge flop they hyped us up over for years, but Romero's done more good than bad- unfortunatley it doesn't seem like anybody recognizes them.

Romero's contribution to DEUS EX is really limited. Deus Ex was Ion Storm Austin or Ion Storm Dallas....... one was Romero and the other was the Deus Ex studio.

I'm pretty sure Romero had nothing to do with Deus Ex.  Warren Spector was the head of Deus Ex in entirely seperate studio from Romero.

Romero had nothing to do with Deus Ex or System Shock.  Romero was talented, and did do a fine job in Doom.  But he was far too lazy, and ultimately that's what got him into trouble.

Whatever, people still come down on Ion Storm in general, and Romero DID do Quake and Wolfenstein- yeah he's made a few mistakes, but why do people's bad points always outshine their good points? I personally have a lot of respect for Romero and I'd sugegst everyone read the article about him and Ion Storm one of it's employees wrote defending him. I can't give you an exact link now, but I'll find one.

Found it.

John Carmack called him a talented but lazy man.  Personally, I will take John Carmack's word over John Romero's highschool friend.

Of course, because Carmack is a MUCH better judge of Romero's character than his highschool friend, who he's known almost twice as long. It's perfectly plausible that Carmack could pick out the intricacies of Romero's persona in MUCH less time than his high school buddy. GREAT line of logic there. All I'm saying is don't judge a person soley on what you see in the news, which is exactly what you're doing. I could just as easily say Miyamoto's a schizophrenic pscyhopath who does shrooms from playing his games.

Are you looking for something to add a greater than or equal amount of humor to the subject, or are you genuinely serious about my question?

I hope for the former and not the latter.
