Yeah, that's another reason I can't figure out the blasted Sega timeline.  They name their systems weird things in different regions, and their US and Japanese offices didn't freaking talk to eachother, which makes it all the more confusing.

How cool would it be for Sega to just come out of nowhere and launch another system of their own?  I know it won't and can't happen, but really, that would surprise the hell out of everyone and I think it would be pretty sweet considering the Dreamcast was, in my opinion, superior to the PS2.  Anyway...I needed to get that off my chest.

Why does anyone quote the spong? Their idea of evidence is two people from the same company knowing each other...

Yes yes... I realized that before I even typed that post.    But I still can't figure out the blasted naming convention.

Beat me to it. In the short stint that i've known of their existence, they've spewed several bits of "news" and rumors. The last memorable one being that Nintendo issued a patent to allow a portable game machine to run code from a console. Yeah, Nintendo calls it connectivity.

N5 sounds good, but i'd rather them continue the Gamecube name, if for nothing else than establishing a brand. "Gamecube" sounds no more kiddy than "Playstation". i remember thinking of Playskool toys when i head the Playstation name first mentioned in a game mag.

But I still can't figure out the blasted naming convention.

i don't see Sega's Mega/Sega naming conventions being any more cryptic than Nintendo's Famicom ("family computer", i know).

US - Sega Genesis, Sega CD
Japan, Europe - Mega Drive, Mega CD

"Mega" may have sounded cooler outside the US, while "Sega" reinforces the brand in the US. Who knows?

Last thing I heard from Spong was that F-Zero GX and AX wouldn't connect together- makes you wonder why they're still around.

I agree aoi, Nintendo should work on creating a good brandname.  I just dont think Gamecube should be the one they use, it has quite a negative stigma from this generation and if Nintendo is trying to change they should scrap it.  The N series idea seems pretty good though, I just want to know the project name so we actually have something to call it.

HA! I have seen the "N5"  i like the name N5 -it's cool and short- i don't like anything but N5! not nintendo 5, N5 !! YOU HEAR ME NINTENDO JAPANESE DUDES?!! CALL IT N5!!! THATS WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT!! anyway the N5 (i love that name) look like the Super Nintendo. ....sortof.... it's the same colors as the SNES too. Ya know those 4 little round parts on the corners of the SNES? well those are on the N5 but the middle part isn't rectangular...it's a circle (not a sphere fanboy a circle -we don't need a "gamesphere" goin around) and the circle is slightly domed so it looks cool and high tech. from the top it looks like a corcle with 4 little legs things stickin out.
Also, it had NO controller ports at ALL. the controllers are WIRELESS! all of em!! and it's 8 PLAYER! and it PLAYS DVD's!! and it has ONLINE CAPABILITIES!!! i heard set release in 2005- 2006 but i've seen 2006 a lot from some sights i saw before this one.

OVERVIEW:
cool shape
online capabilities
grey, not purple
wireless 8 players
plays dvd's
release 2006 ...maybe 2005
should be called N5
maybe N to 5th power or N with 5 below it (like on table of elements thing)
and finally nexus is stupid cause it sounds like "lexus" which is a lame brand of luxery sadan.
nex is dumb cause it's short of "nexus"...dolphin is dumb cause it's been used already so everyones gonna be like "but that was gonna come out 2 years ago it can't be good. "nintendo 5" isn't good cause it's to long and doesn't sound high-tech.

....ha looser you took the time to read this!!??....oh wait....i wrote it....that took longer...oops

oh yeah i left out that continuing the GC name would suck....why not N5 there was an N64 the last truly successful nintendo system ...no one called it nintendo 64 either (N64) and lets face it the gamecube is a great system but it's got a bad and kiddy name put on it by the PS and XBox fanboys cause it was purple and "looked like a lunchbox" (got it from mag. don't blame me i didn't say it) if they had started the GC with a cooler color *cough* not purple *cough* and had a mature rated cool hardcore game to go with the rest when it came out it woulof sold a lot more. continuing the GC name would be a magor mistake though.   oh and in the pic of the N5 in my mag (GMR) i saw N5 printed on the middle of the round thingy so i dunno if it's N5 or nintendo 5 or N------- 5 or if it was really there to stay but i saw what i saw...go check mag. racks for GMR and look through them. hopefully it'll spread the word to other mags like my fav. GamePro so we can all get the inside looks
