Just a few questions (stealth & RPG related)
« on: July 05, 2003, 07:37:42 AM »
So, I'm headed to Nova Scotia for vacation and planning to bring my lil' black cube with me.  I'm also thinking of picking up a couple of fresh titles, but I need some input.  On the stealth/action front, both Splinter Cell & Hitman 2 look appealing; turning to RPGs, both Skies of Arcadia and Summoner 2 have their advocates.

Are they all great?  Should I just bite the bullet and buy all four?  Any feedback appreciated.

Got a GBP? Get one from Zellers if not. Walmarts around here don't have them. And if you're American, buy them here. If you're Canadian, get them where you are.

Splinter Cell is good, but the PGC review says it all. I've also heard great things about Skies of Arcadia.

My choices would be Splinter Cell (haven't played Hitman 2) and Skies of Arcadia (haven't played Summoner 2).  Skies is quite long though so if this is your vacation, you might not want to take such a long game.  Splinter Cell might be a better choice for that.

Artimus:  I don't see myself using a GameBoy much, and portability isn't much of an issue vis-à-vis the 'cube.  Plus, there's an HDTV laying in wait for my arrival at the cottage I'm headed to.

Artimus & NintendoFanGirl:  For better or worse, you're both echoing what I've read in reviews.  I'm still wondering if there are dissenting opinions worth consideration.

Anyhoo, cheers.

i can only speak for skies, as its the only one of the 4 ive played, but you definatly wont be disapointed, as you have probably read the graphics are a bit dated, but still pretty damn good if you ask me, im about 20-25 hours into the game (im not sure, cause i left my cube paused for a real long time with skies in it, and forgot about it ) and im pretty sure im not even half way. its very very enjoyable.

if it was me i would get Splinter Cell and Skies, given they both get good reveiws, but then if i had hte money i would get all 4 ^_^

I've seen others play Hitman 2. Not bad, IMO, but stealth is not my style.

Well, it seems that Skies is well liked in these parts.  So, limiting the discussion to the stealth games:  my understanding is that Splinter Cell has great graphics, that both Splinter Cell and Hitman 2 have similar controls (for better or worse), and that Hitman 2 has the more diverse range of gameplay.  Yikes! I'm still torn; any thoughts?

Splinter Cell is NOT all it's cracked up to be, and the graphics are hugely disappointing. Especially the lighting (the better the tv, the worse the lights).

Get Splinter Cell.  It's not a AAA game (as some Xbox people proclaim), but it's a pretty solid title that's worth your money.

Anytime you have the choice of buying all four, then buy them, theyre all good games. But if you only pick one, DEFINETLY choose skies of arcadia. That game is one of the greatest rpgs ive ever played, itll easily keep you busy for 40+ hours. If you are even remotely interested in rpgs, then pick that up, you wont be dissapointed. If i had to choose a second, it would be splinter cell btw.

I like Hitman 2 better than Splinter Cell.  I've played Splinter Cell on PC and GCN, but Hitman 2 only on PC.  Assuming it is just as good on GCN, I would definitely pick that over Splinter Cell.
