Gamecube DEAD?!?!?!
« on: July 01, 2003, 02:27:14 PM »
Hi all

I basicly had a XBOX and I traded it with 4 controllers and 2 games for a USA gamecube 6 games and 2 pads and a memory card.

My family are going mental on me saying I am MUG and a dam right fool....

I am regreting it and am upset.

Basicly rumor has it reading around that Nintendo are dropping the gamecube very soon...... and I just went out and bought a 64 pound RGB lead to make my cube colour and my family are even more angry at me.
I notice games like viewtiful joe, rougue spear 3 coming out and resident evil 4 yet I read that Gamecube 2 is coming out and soon games and 3rd party are stopping for gamecube.

Have I done a foolish thing to trade my xbox?

I do love the cube atm its black and white so I had to get a lead for 64 pounds and still waiting for that but I wanted a cube cause of all the mario games, zelda and so forth..... but if its dieing and I just got one I am upset.

Can someone give me details?
Will cube still be surpported for a few years yet and so forth?
Thanks

Waz

GameCube will be supported for at LEAST two more years.  It will likely still be a living, viable system 3 years from now.  If you are asking me if you made a poor choice, I would say that the only stupid thing you did was not to do it sooner, and to actually pay attention to your family.

Ask yourself this question.  Right here and now are you more happy with your GameCube?  If so, then you have nothing to regret.  Are there more games upcoming for GameCube than Xbox that you are interested in?  If so, then you have nothing to regret.

Just so you know, Xbox will likely be a dead system before GameCube.  They will both begin to be phased out in 2005, but it's my personal prediction that GameCube will outlive Xbox on store shelves.

GC is not dead.  The next gen of systems will be out in a couple years and that includes all the systems, so even the XB would have eventually been replaced.  If you are happy w/the games you have for the GC now and are happy w/the upcoming games (who wouldn't be), then that's all that matters.  Oh, and buy Wario World.  Great game.

Yup...stabbed right through the hard drive, blood everywhere, horrible sight.....oh wait..nevermind.   The answer is no and it has at least another 2 years of games to add to the collection of 19, oh yeah.

Okay, people keep saying "at least two more years" for Gamecube, but I want to point out that there is nothing to indicate anything beyond two years, and at least some information to suggest no more than two years.  Nintendo still strongly plans on replacing Gamecube in 2005.  Developers will likely not release anything more for it after Nintendo's next console gets here, just as they didn't do anything more for N64 once Gamecube replaced it.  Only the number one console at any given generation gets to see games trickling in even after it is expired (most recently PSX, SNES before it, and NES before that).  The second and third place consoles don't (one or two games don't count).

Even if nintendo does seriously release new hardware early, it wont be till mid/late 2005, 2 years from now, and two more holiday seasons for Cube.  We already know another Zelda is coming to Cube, and Mario128 is gonna be out to .  There's alot of good software left to be had on Cube, and probably will continue right up until the release of new hardware.

This thread is flame-bait, and everyone here bit the hook.  Seriously, there should be a ban on these "Nintendo's Doomed" threads.

Gamecube isn't going anywhere for a long while.  Also it's best games are yet to come.  Metroid 2, Zelda:WW Sequel, Mario128, SW:Rouge 3, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Animal Crossing 2, Geist, F-Zero, Resident Evil 4, Viewtiful Joe,
the list goes on and on.

Truthfully, the idea that "Gamecube is dead" is nothing more than corporate advertising spin.  Madison Avenue lies, designed to cloud the truth and deceive the uninformed, and sometimes, uneducated masses.

You've heard these lines before.  Here's one you might recognize; "Gamecube is for kids."
That's line been disproven a million times over, and yet there are still people gullible enough to believe this.
I truly believe the "Gamecube is dead" rumor is nothing more than the current spin coming out of both Microsoft and $ony.

People need to think for themselves and resist corporate mind control.

If anything it is the competition who has to worry. It is a known fact that the X-box has lost over a billion dollars since launch.  It's also fairly well known that there are many in the PC division of Microsoft who strongly dislike the X-box.

Finally, and this is just my opinion, but the Ps2 has about three good games left.  MGS3, Gt4, and the next GTA game.
Now you may quote other titles, but truthfully, this line-up is a bit weak.

Gamecube is not dead, far from it.  It's best days are yet to come

Don't fall for the Anti-GameCube propaganda all the PS2 and XBox fanboys put out.  It is a known fact that GC is the best console around but the PS2 and XBox are both good systems, just not on the GC's level of greatness.  They need to stop hating on GC and go out and sell their PS2's and XBox's to buy it, because they'll never get all the great games like Zelda, Mario, etc., HAHAHA  Gamecube dead?  Don't make me laugh, it's still in its prime and I don't see Nintendo killing it of for at least 2 years.  But for now, enjoy the great games coming out that AgentSeven pointed out and more that are coming next year.  Good choice for getting rid of your XBox in favor of a GC, like I said, XBox is a good system but GC is much more better.  XBox would make a nice second system though, I myself have a PS2, but the only time I use it is when I feel like playing GTA3 (the only game I have) or to watch a DVD movie, and yes I am well aware that there are some good games coming out for it but I prefer the most of the ones that are coming out for GC (F-Zero, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Final Fantasy: The Crystal Chronicles, etc.,).  I even have my GC sitting on top of my PS2 to show it's dominance, there's little reason for me to keep my PS2, and I might just sell it to buy a Game Boy Player and a new game.

Hmm...I got a little carried away there, anyways good choice

Well that has pretty much been the trend but I think there will be some other factors affecting things.  If the GC2 is backwards compatible then that could make a big difference in whether developers continue to make Cube games.  Odds are you'll see a great deal of PS2 ports on the Gamecube from developers who feel they can make a quick buck by releasing multiplatform games for the old generation that the new generation consoles can still play.  If one made a killer game for the three current consoles in 2005, if backwards compatibility is standard, they could have a big hit with SIX userbases.

Either way it doesn't really matter since if that would happen to the Gamecube it would happen to the Xbox as well so either way the thread starter is in the same boat regardless of whether he traded in his Xbox.

I highly doubt that. Nintendo has always abandoned the current software for the new hardware in order to "motivate" you to by the next thing. Not saying thats not a smart move and convient for them, but its doesn't have the consumers best interest in mind.

While MS is more closely following sonys game plan, thus will most likely continue support. And becuase of direct x, will be more likely to be backwards compadible without as much effort making the idea of continued support for xbox1 even more of a reality.

That doesn't mean the Gamecube still won't sell.

And I believe the PS2 is coming out a year later than the other two, but I could easily be wrong.

Well Nintendo wants their next system to match the date of the PS3 release, so if PS3 comes out '06 then most likely *insert next Nintendo system name here* will match the PS3 date most likely. And IMO why are you worrying soo much on next gen of systems so soon you bought this current gen systems so play them to the fullest so you know that their worth your $$$ hence my GCN and PS2 save me from boredom too many times.

True, there are people saying that the GC and N will go down soon. But there are also many people predicting the near death of Microsoft (as a whole).

And then some people said the world was going to end in 2000.  People just like predicting the downfall of civilization (yes, the fall of Nintendo would result in that).

The fall of Nintendo will prbably cause the fall of videogames or the fall  of quality games.

Wazmeister:  Don't listen to anyone that says Nintendo will go down because it won't...  There are some parties that will stop for a while, just to experiement on other systems, but they won't be gone...  The companies that leave Nintendo, Nintendo made the games anyway, so they will still make them...  The only major one is Sports titles will limit themseleves because XBox is buying alot of stuff, but when they find out that it doesnt work out that way, they will pay...  Nintendo is simply working on RPG's, and Adventure titles.  So don't worry about the Nintendo falling, because it is not, and it has a hell of alot more then 2 years ahead of them, because they have been around this long, and you can expect to see them even longer..  Thank You...
