There are plenty of good games on GameCube.  Most of what you like on Xbox is likely to be available on GameCube as well.

If you like RPGs, you might like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Skies of Arcadia: Legends, Tales of Symphonia, Phantasy Star Online or Lost Kingdoms, which are all available exclusively on GameCube.  (although Skies of Arcadia is a remake)

As a GameCube owner, I must also recommend Mario Sunshine, Zelda: Wind Waker (my favorite game ever), Super Smash Bros Melee, Animal Crossing, Rogue Leader, Pikmin, Sonic, and Super Monkey Ball.

Given that you are only 12 years old, I don't know if your parents let you play violent games, but if they do, I would strongly recommend Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil (any), Splinter Cell, Metroid Prime, and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (upcoming).

lol... no I am not rich.  I am actually living on less than $1/day, because I stupidly spent my last $15 on the GameCube Preview Disc.    I am a 21 year old University student, who is currently starving to death because of his gaming addiction.  Most of those games I have been collecting since I was 7 years old though, so it's a long time thing.  When you are an old man like me, you will likely have a similar collection.

Luigi's Mansion is a good game, but it really lacks length, and replay value.  I would give it a rental first if I were you.  Super Mario Sunshine I thought was excellent.  It was very difficult, but the game was very fun, and it looked really good too.  A lot of people didn't like it because it deviated too far from the Mario formula while not really introducing anything new, but I loved the game, and I personally think it's a classic.

I haven't played 007 Nightfire yet, but I didn't think that 007 Agent Under Fire was all that great... it was like a poor man's Goldeneye IMO.    If you like FPS games, I would strongly advise getting a good PC, but barring that, GameCube is getting Geist next year, which looks to be a VERY good FPS game.

*grins*

Sorry to say this, but your friends are wrong.

I definitely suggest Wind Waker, Sunshine, Super smash Brother Melee, Metroid Prime, Luigi's Mansion, Super Monkey Ball, and (if you like fighting games, which I don't) Bloody Roar (which even I liked).  Also, all the other games that people have mentioned thus far are good, are probably good (meaning I can't say, cuz I haven't played them), or are bound to be good (when they come out).

Other potentially good games that are coming out in the future are F-Zero GX, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Star Fox 2, Killer 7, Resident Evil 4, P.N. 03, Viewtiful Joe, Geist, and Pikmin 2.  Other games that I'm not sure you'll like but that I think I'll like are Kirby's Air Ride and Giftpia.  These may seem rather kiddyish, and I'm not sure if that would have an influence on you or not; you may not want to buy it if it's a "kiddy" game, so I'm only suggesting it lightly.
