GTA:vice city performence PC
« on: June 21, 2003, 02:52:36 PM »
Im all about framerates. i would like to know how well (and fast) my comp will run GTA. my spec are,            pentium4 at 2.53 mhz, 512 mb of ram, and my graphic chip is a nvidia gforce4 mx 420. Ive played GTA:VC on ps2 and was amazed, not by the graphics, but by the atmosphere. Im a 80's nut, and I love every thing about the 80's. And since the pc version lets you tweak the performence to your standards, I was thrilled that the blur efects could be disabled. Dont get me wrong, the blur afects are nice and adds to the atmosphere, but when the sun sets just right, it can be frustaiting.
I need to pray about it

You could disable the blur effects in GTA3 PC too.  Just go into the options menu and turn them off.  Really, it's the first thing you should have done with the game.  As for GTA: VC, your video card is pretty weak, but the rest of your computer is pretty good.  I would think that you should be able to run it without much issue.

i agree with grey ninja on this one- your computer is good enough to run the game
if you could run gta 3 good on your computer then vice city should be no problem
i call the big one bitey.

That's why it pays to not skimp on your video card if you are going to be doing a lot of gaming.  You should at least have a GeForce4 Ti, or a Radeon 9500 Pro if you really care that much about your framerate.  Having a 2.5 GHz P4 might be nice and all, but I would rather go with a 2GHz processor, and a decent video card.  Having the extra processor speed isn't going to help you much if your video card is bottlenecking your computer.

A GeForce4 MX will run the game, but you will be restricted to the lower resolutions only.  I wouldn't go above 800x600 if I were you.  I have a GeForce3 Ti200, which is marginally more powerful than a GeForce4 MX, and I would be lying if I said I could run GTA3 perfectly.  When there is a whole lot of stuff going on on the screen at once, I will lose a few frames, but it's nothing worth worrying about.  It's far better than the same thing happening on a PS2, so I won't be complaining about it.

Just for the record GTA3 wasn't made very well for the PC at all. Vice City is much different. It runs like a totally different game. You shouldn't have any problems at all with your setup. You could prolly get away with 1024x768 on high quality.

I have a copy of GTA3 for PC.  I thought it was a decent port.  It doesn't run like crap, and it looks better than the PS2 version.  In my books, that's a good port right there.

That being said, I don't play GTA much at all.  I don't like the game very much, and only really got a copy so that I could talk with experience when I said that I didn't like the game.

Im more of a sacrifice graphics for speed kinda guy, and I dont mind low res. I dont know why they called it the geforce 4 when its like only a 2.5, a weak card dosn't bother me. Dont worry manunited, Ill get a better card a soon as prices go down and rainbow6 ravan goes down to. I dont mind if I dont get the best stuff first. thanks for all the wonderful replize, happy gaming!

The thing is that your computer is only as fast as the slowest component.  In this case, that would be your video card.  You might be able to get a decent framerate on low resolutions, but it would be much faster if you had a better video card.  In reality, your computer probably performs slower than my lowly Athlon XP 1800+ in a gaming environment.

Manunited, a Radeon 9500 Pro is definately on my wish list.    I borrowed a considerable amount of money from my parents, and when I pay it back, I would like to throw in a new computer as interest.  A Radeon 9500 would be a good match with my computer, and I could throw in my GeForce3 in the new computer.  All I really need to build a second computer is a case and a hard drive other than that.  I do have an S3 Virge DX lying around... but I don't know if that would go over so well.

I would suggest updating your video drivers.

If you have the frame limiter turned off, turn it back on. There seems to be something wrong with the frame limiter in the game.
