Review a game you've never actually played.

...

Luftrausers, therefore, manages to feel like a modernised version of Atari Combat, striking a good balance between paying tribute to the arcade-style games of old, while also making good use of more modern trappings. The monochromatic art style certainly feeds into the impression that Luftrausers is a long lost gem, but it also works to the advantage of the game, as the simple colour scheme and high contrast allows enemies and projectiles to be distinguished easily, despite all the chaos.

The high degree of customisation and the addictive, 'one more round', sense of challenge will no doubt appeal to some, but for those who aren't driven to compete for high scores this is one flight you might want to miss.

7/10

(Give it a go. Review a game you only know through second-hand knowledge.)

Titan Fall

Titanfall aims for the COD market, but fails to differentiate itself.

Why do game studios leave their employers and then proceed to make a carbon copy of their previous efforts? Respawn studios could have stayed at Infinity Ward and shoe-horned in Mechs and wall running.
Titanfall is a game cursed with high expecations. People were clamoring for a new generation of shooter to blow their minds and reinvigorate their waning love for competitive shooters, but Titanfall fails to deliver to all but the bro-iest of the bros.
Take a Gen 7 FPS. Remove single player. Add really stupid bots. Add better textures to an aging game engine. Put in disposable robots. Wonder why you added parkour when nobody takes full advantage of it. Say something about the cloud. BOOM you got yourself a Titan Fall.

Score: 97/100 an epic battle between the rebels and their overlords, a daring space arena awaits as multiple planets are the stage for a vicious war over precious resources.

Pac-Man

An a-maze-ing game about a living pizza, Pac-Man must find his way through several scrolling-screen mazes. He is chased by three hungry children who want to chow down on his delicious pizza shape, and he must avoid them as he navigates the mazes and collects the toppings dotted throughout each maze. When Pac-Man collects all the toppings in a stage, he increases in tastiness and heads to the next maze, where the children get faster due to his increased taste.

In a cruel twist, one of the powerups in the maze allows Pac-Man to grow huge and get revenge on the children by eating them. They will soon regenerate, but even so, this act of child cruelty is pretty shocking. Aside from that, there isn't much to the game. The mazes grow in complexity and size, making it more and more difficult to collect all the toppings within the time limit. The game records high scores, but after a few attempts at beating them the game grows boring quickly.

5/10 A decent if slightly disturbing arcade game with little lasting appeal. It'll never catch on.

Yes, I've truly never played Pac-Man.

Oh, yeah, I think I did try that for like 30 seconds, but I don't think that counts as playing the original arcade Pac-Man. That would be like if someone played the Super Mario Brothers microgame in WarioWare and then claimed that they have played Super Mario Brothers.

This topic reminds me when a friend did a review for a game solely by watching a Let's Play of it...

Pac-Man was the first game I ever played, it was a cocktail machine in a bar my dad took me to. He had a real beer, I had a root beer and we dropped quarter after quarter into that machine for what felt like forever. Every time I went to that bar I went straight to the Pac-Man machine. Yes I also had, and enjoyed it on Atari VCS. I loved it too much to care it was flawed, all games were flawed back then and call me crazy but I also enjoyed E.T too. Not as much as some other games but more than a certain youtuber wants people to. Even playing it on an arcade can't be that hard, I see those old machines everywhere just check your local bars or the skating rink nearby somebody has to have one somewhere.

I will play:

The one game I never played that I always hated was Chrono Trigger, to this day it bothers me how much love that games gets. I tried to understand it but I just don't. I guess you must really have to be into convoluted nightmares to enjoy that mess of a game. I like Zelda games a lot, some better than others, and I like RPG's too, some better than others, but I never understood what the fuss was about Chrono Trigger, so it's got time travel, in a FANTASY world in a FANTASY setting in a fictional universe, not much appeal as it's all made up, if it was time travel int he real world but with a Fantasy twist or RPG elements then that would be one thing but since it is all make believe you can't really know the time travel is even happening for sure can you?

Also I don't like the notion of multiple endings for a sprite based text heavy interactive cartoon. I watched a few videos on Youtube, I read the tutorials, I even sat through my brother in law play the entire game and it just looked too boring for me to care about. It was one of those games I just think was over rated for some unknown reason and has been over hyped on the internet because that is what the internet does, it takes a game nobody liked and turns it into a game everyone hated, takes a game most people liked and turned it into greatest game ever, and takes a random game most people didn't even know existed and turns it into this great hidden gem everyone needs to play before they die. Not for me. I rate it a 3 out of five.

Like all good local multiplayer games, therefore, Towerfall Ascension manages to be immediately comprehensible while also possessing a hidden depth. The razor sharp controls are intuitive enough that almost anyone could pick up and play Ascension, but spend a few hours with the game in the company of friends, let the competitiveness wash over you, and you can expect certain tactics and manoeuvres to gradually reveal themselves. Indeed, much of Ascension's success derives from it's ability to instil a competitive environment in which mind games become a natural extension of the game itself. The mechanics of jumping around and launching arrows is undoubtedly fun, but the real draw here is the opportunity to play with friends. Establishing short-term alliances to take out a common foe, backstabbing said ally, deliberately trying to aggravate the person sitting next to you by killing them for the third time in a row, these are the situations that Towerfall Ascension excels at creating.

So grab a few beers, call a few friends, and get ready to hear the 'F' word...a lot.
