Topic: I hate console wars.

Wow you read way into my original topic. I was simply saying that all this fanboy arguing over which system is best is ridiculous. PS4 and Xbox One are both great systems that will get plenty of games and developer support. People may have preferences, but one system isn't superior over the other one.

As for the other stuff you said, people don't want one console to rule them all. However, it would be good for game consoles to stop being so proprietary and locked down. Multiple manufacturers can make consoles that all run the same games, and they would all run a standardized OS to ensure cross-compatability. Developers shouldn't have to make different versions of the same game for different consoles.

Look at smartphones and PC's, for example. A Samsung Galaxy can run the same apps as an HTC One; an HP laptop can run the same programs as a Lenovo laptop. The software (OS) controls the experience, not the hardware, and that's how game consoles should be.

But you need the camera to broadcast your games, so the viewers can see and hear you. And many people are broadcasting their games on PS4 and Xbox One, proving that those cameras are fairly popular.

Why are people so apprehensive about having a camera on a game console? Nobody freaked out this much when the PS Eye and original Kinect were out. And before you mention 'privacy concerns', remember that your smartphone also has a camera. Oh no, the government is spying on us, blah blah blah.

The point is, Microsoft included the Kinect with the Xbox One for the same reason that Nintendo included the GamePad with the Wii U; to ensure mass market adoption and to enhance the user experience. Controlling my Xbox One with voice commands is so intuitive, and I love broadcasting gameplay through Twitch.


One more thing, if you don't like having a camera with the system, you don't have to use it. You can enable privacy settings to ensure the Kinect never listens to you in the background. I don't use the TV functions on the Xbox One or Wii U, but I'm not pissed that they were included. They're simply extra features for people that want them.

I'm not saying the functionality they provide isn't good, but they still add to the price of the console. I'm not necessarily opposed to the camera stuff, and I'm sure the voice command stuff is neat, but $500 is still $500.

True. I don't understand why people say the Xbox One is failing even though there is only a 3 million sales gap between it and the PS4. Yes the PS4 is selling more units at a quicker pace, but that doesn't automatically mean the Xbox One is a failure. The Xbox One is selling much better than the Wii U, so there's something to consider.


People tend to forget about what happened last gen... PS3 had slow initial sales and a higher price, but when Sony released the cheaper PS3 Slim model it quickly caught up to the 360. The point is, short-term success means nothing when this generation will last for at least 6 years.


Does it really matter who is "winning"? Both Xbox One and PS4 are selling well, and they are both getting plenty of games from all the 3rd-party developers. What's with all the fanboy hate?

Opinions matter a lot and if you don't get why people get worked up about mere opinion you're either on the popular side of the opinion or have never been in a situation where having the less popular opinion affected you.  My friend always complains that if they release a new chocolate bar that he likes it will inevitably get taken off the market after only a few years.  You know why?  Because not enough other people shared his opinion in the chocolate bar.  Your favourite show get cancelled?  It's because you singular opinion meant dick and not enough other people liked it for it to continue.  We're all voting with our wallet and just like how your political candidate doesn't get elected if you're the only person who votes for him, your favourite things don't get made if not enough people share your opinion.

So the console wars DO matter and it makes a lot of sense for people to get worked up about it.  The Wii U ain't doing so well.  For any Nintendo fan that sucks.  This might be Nintendo's last console or it might be what convinces Nintendo to go in a new direction that you don't like or maybe it's the beginning of the end for them as a videogame company or a company PERIOD.  Not enough people having the same opinion as you will end up negatively impacting you so damn right you want people to buy the games you like on the console you like.  You want your tastes to influence the industry.  Some people can approach this in a mature way and some can't.  Some can't even conceptualize why they have the opinion they have or the whole thing is just based on irrational emotion so there IS no real argument they can make so they resort to insults and acting like an ass.

If you don't care it's probably because you have not yet been affected by rooting for the "wrong" team.  Or videogames aren't important enough for you to really care.  But if they matter to you, it makes sense why some people act like lunatics.  If your team doesn't "win" then they might cease to exist.

PC's are not the same though they DO play the same games! that was my point. The hardware can  be different but if all the games were compatible it would lead to games being more widely accepted again look at Hollywood, it CAN be done and YES it is what people want even if they don't understand it. But if you HATE console wars why would you of all people be against a single platform obviously YOU benefit from the console war because you chose a console that is not popular. I think it just says more about you than the topic at hand.

it is still a valid point but the problem is there hasn't been a united place to release games for over a decade. Back when they were new they did work just like Hollywood, video games were released in Arcades, much like movies were in Theaters, and then they were ported to consoles AND PC's. The problem was that by the time Playstation came along people didn't care about Arcades anymore and that business model fell to the way side and things got more divided then ever before.

Bringing up tablets has NOTHING to do with my argument and is a damn cop out.


You misunderstood what I was saying based on your reply so I will try again. DO you own a DVD player? Or a Blu Ray Player? Guess what that is what video games SHOULD be like and what every gamer deep down wants, the problem is that nobody wants to work together to do it right. It doesn't mean ONE company makes the box and everyone agrees to make games for it. Cell Phones and tablets and PC's are entirely different technologies and have no bearing on this topic at all.
