Ok, I am just way curious on this one. Here's the link. GTA 3 was never released in Japan because it's gameplay and design are not very appealing to the general Japanese gamer. I like to think that the Japanese have a little too much taste, so I am thinking it will bomb and bomb badly.

What do you guys think? Hit or miss?

Depends on how they look at it. It is sort of a bunch of mini-games in a city-scape with a gangster set-up. If they look at it like this, then it might do well, Mario Partys always have. If it is seen as an open ended beat-em-up, then get the ear plugs, that is a big bomb...

I wish it well in Japan. Like it or not, GTA III was a landmark game. The Japanese need to get a taste of the goodness that can come out of American development studios

They'll see it as either a beat em up, or a shooter. Its funny how many different genres work in different countries.

That's the kind of review I like to see on GTA. None of this 10/10 crap in Japan.

No it's not. That's my point. GTA3 is a pretty decent game by it's own right. It's just not the second coming that everyone over here makes it out to be.

Even if the scores were 70s, the game(s) still would have sold an insane amount of copy. I can see many reasons why this game is so appealing(Note: let's remember that I'm not a GTA fan by the way):

- two minutes in, and there's already complete freedom to do as you please
- huge cities to explore with cool reactions to stuff(the ambulance coming to help a guy/girl that was run over)
- super good car designs
- amazing voice-acting

Then there's the bad:

- worst on-foot controls(running and gunning) in a game
- repetitive missions
- super bad character models
- too much focus on violence(?)

Well... it appears GTA3 is doind very well in Japan

I believe it sold 75k of its 100k shipment on the first day, now its sold over 150k, Capcom are shipping 750k more the retailers to keep up with demand.

Gah. I hate GTA.

I played GTA2 becuase I thought I would like the 2D games at least a little (hate 3 and Vice City) and I was like, "Phmoo! The controls are even WORSE" and I threw the CD in the blender and served the remainders to a squirrel.

I'd do the same with Vice City, but I don't own it. Actually, I didn't own GTA2 but it was sooooo very bad that I didn't care. They should be rid from this earth no matter the consequences.

Pah, if you think GTA2 is bad by iself you have NEVER played it multiplayer! Not only it has a tendency to desync, but you also spend like two minutes to get to the other players, fight for 5 secods, die, search again. I have yet to see a more boring multiplayer than that. Yes, it tops Counterstrike by a gigantic margin.

Nope, I havem't. Sounds pretty awful, though.

Oh yeah, I saw the squirrel the other day DEAD. I guess that goes to show you that the game truly is hazardous to your health. I swear it was the same squirrel I fed the game to. I just know, okay?
