Anyone else think it's funny that Nintendo went all in this tablet, effectively forcing us to buy a very expensive controller while putting up with last gen hardware, and they might switch out Nintendo Land, which is still the best demonstration of the controller, for a ten year old game that doesn't need the tablet at all? How do you sell this thing if the games don't even need it? For $350 they could probably have gone with a very normal controller and beefier specs that compare better to the competing consoles due out later this year. Without the tablet the Wii U is a stupid waste of time. The only reason the Wii got away with being a gen behind was because of it's unique controller. The Wii U struggles and Nintendo has seemed to be less and less interested in the whole unique feature that justifies the console's whole existence in the first place. Nintendo Land might be a glorified tech demo but at least a new Wii U owner gets an idea right off the bat of what the console is all about. Last gen hardware for nearly the price of next gen hardware with an expensive controller that doesn't seem necessary is a pretty hard sell.
I don't think this compares to the 3DS Zelda bundle because when that came out there was already demand and interest in the 3DS. The Wii U's problem is that few feel there is a reason to own one and the chance to play a souped up Gamecube game isn't going to be it. Now if Mario 3D World creates that interest then this bundle might sell. Nintendo probably figures that bundling Mario 3D World is a waste, hoping that people will buy this bundle and then make an additional purchase of Mario 3D World.
