Why does Pixar keep making Cars movies?!
« on: August 10, 2013, 04:16:36 PM »
This is actually your answer, in case you ever wanted to know:

Walk into any toy store or major retail chain with a toy section. Count the number of toys you see for:

Toy Story (any)
A Bug's Life
Monsters, Inc.
Finding Nemo
The Incredibles
Ratatouille
WALL-E
Up
Brave

The number is probably very low, and would be at 0 if Monsters University had been 3 months past the home video release. You know what you'll have no trouble finding in the toy department?

Cars toys.

You know what franchise you'll also find perennially in the bookbags, shoes, and lunch bag/thermos section?

Again, Cars.

Pixar keeps making them because the toys sell all year long, and probably see a sizable boost when another movie hits. I mean, this is a company that pushes boundaries as to what can be done in a 3D movie; take a look at the environments in The Incredibles, fur rendering (including impacts of collapsible particle-laden objects) in Monsters, Inc., and even the boundary/portal tricks used in Presto. Cars, from what I can gather, is probably the project Pixar trains new staff members on, because it's the definition of a safe film.

Chances are, the franchise pays for itself and has no bearing on the release of their major feature films.

What was the point of this thread? You know the answer yourself, and it's not like it's a secret that Pixar is company that wants to make *gasp* money.

I knew the answer to that, and I haven't walked in to a toy store in years.

One thing I loved about Pixar is that they never revisted a series unless they had a very fresh idea. Now it seems, they could **** all about that.

I am looking forward to Incredibles 2 though. Incredibles was just that.

I am in the minority but I prefer Dreamworks over Pixar anyways. But I did like Cars but one was more than enough.

Ah man... Except Pixar didn't make the newest movie in the Universe of cars.  That was another Studio.

Pixar is good when they make something New but these Sequels just don't hold up.

I am looking forward to Incredibles 2 though. Incredibles was just that.

Of all the movies that Pixar had made up to the announcement of a sequel to Cars, Incredibles was the only one I though should have had a sequel.

Instead of the incredibly obvious need for an Incredibles 2, we instead got Cars 2, (& a spin-off in Planes), a sequel to Monsters Inc.: Monster University, and a sequel to Finding Nemo: Finding Dory.

Was there actually a sequel announced for Incredibles? or will we see a sequel to Wall-E or Up first?

Planes isn't even made or animated by Pixar so all this bitching is null and void. I ain't even mad this is being made.

I believe that's because Pixar probably didn't want to make the movie. It was originally going to be a straight-to-DVD (I believe short) film. It was executively produced by the chief creative officer at Pixar though. Luckily it did pretty poorly at the box office, unfortunately a sequel will be released...in less than a year.

Planes didn't need to sell alot of tickets. Like turbo it will be made up in toy sales.

Straying off-topic here, since we ARE talking Pixar, I haven't found myself liking their most recent films (Brave, Cars 2). I really didn't think Brave had a strong enough story; too many holes in it. Wreck-It Ralph deserved Best Animated over it in my opinion.

Cars 2... I don't need to say a word. Cars wasn't a bad movie, but it didn't need a sequel. Toy sales or not, the movies weren't up-to-par with Pixar's previous features.
