Nintendo's had plenty of support for the Wii U eShop (NES Remix 1 and 2, Dr. Luigi, Pushmo World, releasing Wii Sports Club and Wind Waker HD first via the eShop). There's a Mario Vs. Donkey Kong game coming out that I assume will also be an eShop only game.

It doesn't make sense for third party indie developers to stick with just one console(unless one of the is footing the bill). The best Nintendo can do is appeal to developers enough to make Wii U their lead development platform. On that end, Nintendo has had some very good timed (Nano Assault Neo, Shovel Knight), console (Toki Tori 2, Edge, Rush, Armillo, Tengami) and Nintendo exclusives.(Mighty Switch Force HD, Shantae). They need to keep going with the relationship they have with the Image & Form, Two Tribes, Knapnok and Team Cherrys of the world.

I'd hardly call Dr. Luigi, NES Remix, or Wii Sports compelling, new content. It just further proves my point- Nintendo just seems to throw stuff on the eShop. It feels lazy.

The eShop does have some good games, but it is mostly crap. Quite surprising actually (they need to bring back the "Official Nintendo Seal of Quality"- there's a bunch of garbage on there that resembles the early days of the Android Market.

Yeah right if they required games to have a seal of quality it would be a barren wasteland just like Wii U retail space.

And the Virtual Console isn't even a real alternative, its nothing compared to the Wii Virtual Console.
Trying to be a better person, honest.

You know what games had the Official Nintendo Seal of Quality? Everything published by LJN.

Because of that Seal of Quality requirement, there were no bad games on the NES. Every last one of them lived up to that high level of quality.

Nope, that was the 3DS game.  This is the HD upgrade that they didn't misspell "Revelations".

So I just earned one last eShop $5 credit with DDP and am unsure what I should spend it on. I am thinking about either Cubeman 2 or Toki Tori 2+.

Both are indie developers I want to support and both are games I will enjoy and eventually buy. Anyone want to sway my purchase one way or another (or throw a random recommendation in)?

I hold firm in the belief that Toki Tori 2 is one of the finest games ever made. Everything about it is perfect. While I was playing it, I had several moments where I thought to myself "this is awesome, but I wish it had _____ feature" and then a little later it revealed that it in fact had that feature subtly built into its UI-less presentation. Also there's a picture mode which I always eat up for whatever reason.

Toki Tori 2+ is a very challenging puzzle platformer with an obtuse goal and map system. Looks pretty too in a simple cartoon way. Haven't played Cubeman 2. May I suggest Steamworld Dig Wii U?

It is as much as "platformer" as Captain Toad.

There is nothing obtuse about goals in this game -- you have to collect golden thingies.

During the year where everyone and their dogs were crying murder at long winded tutorials and games spoon-feeding the player, Toki Tori 2 was specifically avoiding all in-game text except for logo in the beginning. Of course, all these people quickly found out that they need tutorials so they dismissed TT2 as too hard and obtuse.

I'm currently lost in the game. Apparently I was supposed to go to the mountain and I went another way.

There is no linear path you're supposed to take. It's metroidvania style game.

May I suggest Steamworld Dig Wii U?

I already picked that up when it was on sale in October/November. Used my first DDP credit combined with the sale to make it only 99 cents. Best purchase ever.

Since TT2 is on sale I will buy that and wait to see if Cubeman 2 gets a sale down the road.

Willing to bet you'll enjoy Toki Tori 2+.  Like others above, it was one of the finest games I've played in the past few years. A couple of puzzles can seem obtuse, but overall the game does a brilliant job of teaching you how to play as you go along and is just a wonderful experience.

(Steamworld Dig is also a great game. I'm considering buying now on Wii U, but already own on 3DS and am not usually keen on double-dipping.  However, currently the SD slot on my 3DS is broken rendering all downloaded games unplayable until it gets fixed.  Hmm...)

I enjoyed the first Toki Tori on WiiWare but never finished it. I have no doubt I will enjoy it.

Unless you really want to play SWD again soon I wouldn't double dip. There is one secret area that pays tribute to Nintendo but it isn't worth re-buying the game on it's own. I do think the Wii U one is the superior version though.

I got Toki Tori 2+ as part of the sale, and I'm excited to play it. Just have to balance my time with everything else I'm playing. Then the new semester for school starts on the 12th, so there's that to consider, too, for me.

Also, I played Toki Tori 1 after the sequel, and it is a completely different bag. I mean, they're both 2D puzzle platformers with a fat bird, but that's about the extent of the similarity. The first game is stage based and dependent on resource management. It's okay, but 2 is like a SMB to SMB3 type leap.
