According to IGN, Developers are saying more on Nintendo's next gen console.

But about the news. It is great to hear that we won't be getting a Nintendo system a year after Sony comes out with theres. In fact, we may be getting it earlier, but I'm guessing it'll be around the same time. Although I only wonder about one thing, how much better will the sucessor be?

I also hope they have either Link or Mario as their launch title. This would help in competition against PS3's and Xbox 2's line-up.

Since the release is scedhuled for Spring 2005, I'm guessing that is Japan only. Then Fall 2005 will be the North America/European release.

I'm just afraid of teh fact that if the release it early, no one will buy it cause they're waiting for the PS3.
But yes, they HAVE to launch with Mario. AND ZELDA. That alone will ensure massive sales.
A Star Wars game, a racing game and a fighting game are also needed for the launch line-up. And by then, Nintendo shoul dhave someone to make a racer in the mould of Gran Turismo and/or Project Gotham.

As for Mario...this would be ideal launch to launch the true sequel to Mario 64.

yeah, i know, in that case they should have some sort of Zelda-esque title, like Fire Emblem or Earthbound. Or even the hugely anticipated Pokemon RPG.

It would be good if Nintendo had Zelda for at least ONE launch of a console though wouldn't it?

The long awaited anticipated game that everyone wants, a true console 3D pokemon RPG, would be perfect to launch with. And they also need a mario game and a mature game, by Retro Studious or Silicon Knights or Capcom. Nintendo releasing earlier or before the PS3? Yes! Well, I think it's better to release GCN2 early. Nintendo has no other choice. Going head on with Ps3 at launch is suicide, as well as releasing it after. Nintendo should launch with a revolutionary Mario, which hopefully drops the whole " star collecting " thing. It's getting repetitive. ( IMO )

Zelda should wait until the second year of the GCN2's lifetime. I agree with your other game choices though.

Dont forget Nintendo needs an exclusive FPS at launch from Retro!

Nintendo DEFINATELY needs to get thier act together next gen if they want to be number one again. It's almost like Sony set the rules for Nintendo this gen:

- You have to launch 18 months after PS2
- You cannot have a killer Mario 64 type title for launch
- No significant full-fledged roster of third-party software until year 3 of the GCN lifespan
- No GoldenEye type of title
- A non-threatening purple lunch-box design
- No DVD playback to make the $100 price difference (intially) moot in the eyes of the average consumer.
- No sustained strategy on getting older consumers, a stead-fast focus on N64-styled
family fare.
- No clear GCN-GBA Link-Up until mid-way though the console life-cycle.
- No focused online strategy
- No marketing campaigns that actually sell anything
- Panasonic is allowed to make a DVD version of the Cube as long as it's only
released and marketed in niche quantities so that is never makes a market impact.
- Retro can be a good studio, but only after reshuffling the deck considerably and losing
Rare.

Next gen Nintendo will be grabbing for Sony's throat. Nintendo vs Sony, FIGHT!

Finally the big N after 2 console launch realizes that to be first they had to do things right from the start. We all know that trying to bring the console early might not be a good thing ( DC anyone?) or it might be a good thing (ps2...well kinda). So I welcome this news with great hope that the big N will learn from their mistakes and put a great console out. Big 3rd party support, triple A first party titles and heavy marketing that should start as early as e3 2k4 ( or even earlier) will create a lot of hype and good.Also more RPGS please.

I'll be getting it, and I personally believe that the success of a console (not the goodness of, just success) depends on when it comes out. Most casual gamers will immediately get the first next gen system that comes out, much like they did for PS2. Nintendo will always have its fanbase, but for the masses, all they need to do is release early. The kiddie image is a tiny problem compared to release date, and that false illusion is even now being shaken off.

A good idea for Nintendo would be to make thier next system backwards compatable with the GameCube, and then lower the price of all GC games to $10 or $20, and advertise them like thier new, the casual gamer would never know. Or if their going for the whole "Ultimate Games Machine" look, then they could try to make it backwards compatable with every Nintendo console, from NES to GC.

But on top of that, they definately need a strong line up of games, FROM DAY ONE! SSB3, a Pokemon RPG, a Factor 5 game and a Mario game should all be available on day one. SSB3 would cover the fighting genre and the multiplayer genre. Pokemon would cover the "kiddies", pokemon fans, and rpg fans. Factor 5 can cover the graphics, and make a graphically stunning version of Star Wars or perhaps something new. A high quality Mario game is a MUST! Super Mario Bros, Super Mario World and Super Mario 64 are three of the highest selling games of all time, it makes sense. Some Capcom games would be nice too

Anyway, im still content with my GameCube and im highly anticipating lots of GC games like Mario Kart, Pikmin 2, Fzero etc.

Any ways, you guys need to speak realistically. Nintnedo would never launch Pokemon, Mario, and Zelda simltaneously for a luanch. That would be ludacris. It would be smarter to realease them 3 months apart, spanning throughout the entire year. I for one, think Pokemon RPG won't happen for a very long time. After this years E3 display, there wasn't even a hint of it. Just a bunch of side-quest- poke games. There is talk about another Zelda for Gamecube, and if so, that would leave no time to make a Zelda for the console launch. This leaves Mario. You could argue that Nintendo has something for him, as well, but I have other ideas. I think Nintendo is purposely holding off Mario until launch. I would expect it to be a major improvement and difference from Mario Sunshine.

I doubt a second party or third party would ever have the honor of being Nintendo's flagship launch title. Even if they have GTA4 or MGS4, I can definitely bet you the flagship title will be by Nintendo.

Not if it isn't practical. If MS and Sony take these entertainment hubs they've been pushing for too far, then they may end up with a console that'll be too expensive to be practical. If that's the case, Nintendo will have the far more affordable system because it will be game only. If big N can do that, and have some decent launch titles, they could very well become numero uno again.

Of course, I live in a beutiful dream world.

Because I don't want to pay the extra money for DVD playback, and I see it as a completely useless "feature" anyways. I would see it as Nintendo compromising their principles to serve a bunch of idiots who don't realize that they can have a standalone DVD player for cheaper than their "other" consoles.

I want my console to play games, not movies.

In addition to that you are inviting money that may be spent on games for the system, for something else like DVDs.
