I think the reason they set the threshold at 1,000 posts is in the hopes that posters who spend that much time on the forums realize how pointless it is to smite/applaud users

I don't think you understand this process. Unless I really like someone, and am feeling extremely generous, the person getting the title has no absolutely no influence over its content. Requesting a title is a no-no, especially for someone as reviled around here as you are.
