Every student having a tablet is certainly a huge improvement over having a couple computers over in the corner that, in my experience, barely get used. Tech only really gets used when it can be used for the whole class simultaneously, and except in rare cases that's only currently possible in dedicated computer labs, which have their own issues, including having to be shared by numerous classrooms, limiting their availability.

It's how the material is taught to the students.

I wouldn't recommend doing that. I read somewhere in the interweb that they once did that to students at a monastery somewhere and they were buried underneath the tablets alive. See Picture Below

The only thing easy access to information accomplished is that it conditioned us to know where to find the knowledge, not to retain any actual knowledge.

When obtaining information was hard to come by (going to a local library, search through encyclopedias, etc), we had to write down notes to retain the information, and then re-write the same information into our papers.

With the internet obtainable everywhere now, our brains have no use for retaining the actual fact unless we're trying out for Jeopardy or something.

Retaining facts really isn't that important, though. What's important is the ability to find information and to process it, which is what modern schools teach.

I see reading comprehension is stellar in this thread. I guess that proves my point. When did I start whining about the good ol' days? My argument is people are as stupid as they've ever been and the technology revolution in education has been, in a large part, a waste of time and money.
