Gran Truismo 4 graphics
« on: May 26, 2003, 12:20:45 PM »
Just reading IGN best of E3 list and I noticed they gave Turismo best graphics for the PS2 and a honourable metion overall.  I was wondering if this was a playable demo or not?  It does not come out untill 2004.  Also in the screen shots I noticed no more than 4 cars on the screen at once, but the graphics look really good.  I was just wondering how the Ps2 could pull something like that off with such a low graphic power consol?  What do you guys think?

... Did you see GT3 in action?
It still remains one of the best looking games ever. I have NO doubt they'll be able to pull off all the eye candy one could need for GT4.

When developers actually put the time into PS2 games' graphics, the results are stunning.

The problem isn't the hardware on the PS2.  It's the architecture.  The machine is powerful enough to stand toe to toe with the Xbox and GameCube, but getting that much power out of the machine is exceptionally difficult, and that's why the graphics commonly don't look as good as your average GameCube or Xbox game.

Gran Turismo is a flagship Playstation title though.  Sony goes through great effort to ensure that the graphics are as good as can be.  I am still stunned by some of the miracles that they pulled off in Gran Turismo 2.  In an emulator, the game looks almost like an average PS2 game.

It was playable and looking rad at E3. I didn't play it, as I assumed it plays just like GT3 - from what I saw, I noticed a good many more details in the environments. Also, I love GT3 and I'll probably buy this one too.

Do the graphics on any other racer look as good as those in GT3/4? Any on Gamecube?
If not, why? It IS a PS2 after all.
Just wanna know is all.

I was playing GT3 at my friend's place last week.  It was the first time I played the game, and the graphics blew me away.  I didn't know the PS2 could pump out graphics that good, plus with a smooth frame rate.

Funny thing, his cat was licking the back of my head while I was playing!!!...

Burnout 2 looks mighty sweet.
Does anyone know if the two are just the same in the looks dept.? Or, if not, which is inferior?

They're completely different types of racers with different goals. Burnout 2 is an arcade racer with a focus on exaggerated crashes. GT4 is a sim racer with a focus on realism. Burnout 2 recreates urban environments (complete with traffic), with particle effects and motion blur. GT4 recreates various race tracks which are a bit more sparse than Burnout 2's areas, which leaves more detail for the cars. i think both games succeed visually, although GT4 wins in my book from what i've seen. It ups the realism a bit from GT3, and adds some utterly spectacular locales, like the Grand Canyon.

Apparently, it handles totally different to GT3 because they've totally reworked the physics.

I bought...not really, scammed Walmart and got a PS2, GTAVC, and GT3.  GT3's graphics are nice, but there are better looking racers out there, minus paper people and aliasing.  That said, GT4 looks like an improvement.

Grey Ninja - No, the PS2 is NOT powerful enough to stand toe to toe with the GCN and Xbox. Yes, GT4 looks better than most GCN and Xbox games, but that's only because those GCN and Xbox games aren't making enough use of the power that those consoles have. Simply put, if Polyphony Digital were developing GT4 for GCN or Xbox, and put as much effort into it as they are with the PS2 version, than the game would look significantly better.

First I must say that after playing GT4 at E3, I can't see what all the fuss is about.  The graphics didn't look half as good as all those doctored screenshots that have been posted all over the web.  Plus after playing the game I realized, this is the same exact game as the first, only w/ the exception of online play.  This series hasn't changed in years.

Now I know some of you will say "why mess w/ a good thing?"  Personally I prefer a little innovation with my sequels, especially after all these years.

bah I don't care. Gimme good racing. But then again, I don't actually own any GT game, I've only played them at friend's houses, so it's not as old to me

If they add some more American manufacturers, specifically Pontiac, I'll buy it.  Other wise I'll keep my "Greatest Hits" copy of GT3!  At least they could add some older American models for the US manufacturers all ready in the game series.  It would rock to drive a 1st or 3rd generation Camaro Z-28!

I played GT3, and man, it is soooo boring.
Sure you got loads of nice cars there, but racing them is slow as a snail going up an waterfall.
What does the speedo say? 130km/h? Does itr look like it? Er....no.

Go Burnout 2!

The graphics were pretty good... I have GT3, so I might check this out to see if there's enough new material to make it worth buying.
