Humble Indie Bundle #4 giveaway
« on: September 26, 2012, 10:43:57 AM »
Here's the situation:

I've been a steady supporter of the Humble Indie Bundles, but have absolutely no need for bundle #4. Every game I'm interested in has been released as part of other bundles, or is already owned on a different platform. Would someone else like it? The general key page hasn't been claimed yet, and neither have Steam or multiplayer keys. The games haven't been installed, everything is fresh and new and ready to go - with the bonus games for paying over the average included of course, and also the majority of the contents of Humble Bundle #3 due to buying early.

Anyone interested should post below to let me know which game from the bundle you are most interested in playing and why.  I'll draw a random name to decide who gets it in roughly a week (or whenever I get bored of waiting and feel like giving the games away).

Games included:
  • And Yet It Moves
  • Bit.Trip Runner
  • Cave Story+
  • Cogs
  • Crayon Physics Deluxe
  • Gratuitous Space Battles
  • Hammerfight
  • Jamestown
  • NightSky
  • Shank
  • Super Meat Boy
  • VVVVVV
Best of luck!

Of those the only one I haven't yet played, but really want to play is Super Meat Boy. I followed the game for what felt like years when it was a WiiWare game, only for it become multiplatform, and then eventually a PC and Xbox exclusive. Shank looks interesting too, but I heard mixed things about it.

???

Compared to what? You can use controllers on a PC, including both Wii and 360 controllers...  Using a controller is recommended for Super Meat Boy, but I don't see how being on PC is a limiting factor.

There are a couple of those that I would really like to own

1) VVVVVVVVVVVVVVV - Cause I love 8bit games, still play a bunch (you know this since you see my Swapnote reviews) and it looks hard. I love a challenge, so this is up my alley. And no, I missed the 3DS eshop sale.

2) Cogs- I love puzzle games and any kind of variation on a puzzle game will generally cause me to play it for 20-30 hours easy. You can check out my steam account, XCWarrior, to verify this tendency in me.

3) Cave Story+ - I wanted the 3DS eshop one that is supposed to come... someday.. but this would obviously solve that problem.

And for those who mentioned Super Meat Boy above, its one of the few games of this bundle I do own, it's a great game. I have a PS2 looking PC controller that works great with the game. It's balls hard no matter what. But tons of fun.

Speaking of Humble Bundles, the final version of Cortex Command, a game that was included in Humble Bundle #2, is now out. They added Steam codes for it to the download page a while after the bundle ended, so if you haven't already grabbed it, you can get it now.

Ok, time for giveaway results.

I see 5 people that have responded. I'm not entirely sure that everyone was responding with the intent to receive the bundle... but will do a random selection from these names and if the winner isn't interested then I'll reduce the pool and try again.

To make it random, I'll roll a 10-sided die and give the prize to:
1,2 - Pixelated Pixies
2,4 - Glad0s
5,6 - xcwarrior
7,8 - Oblivion
9,0 - NWR_insanolord

Ready?
...
Result is a 2.  Congrats to Pixies, I'll drop you a private message with details.

Thanks to all who entered!

Just noticed a mistake: Glad0s was supposed to be 3,4. My apologies for any confusion that might have caused, although I suspect the clearly established pattern with every other entry will make that typo excusable.

THQ is having a blowout Humbe Bundle including:

DarkSiders I
Metro 2033
Red Faction Armageddon
Company of Heroes
Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts
Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor

Plus Saints Row the Third if you beat the average.

Includes soundtracks, single Steam key. Windows only, no Mac or Linux. :(

The average gift amount is really low because of the cheap Windows gamers. The average would be much higher if they ported to Mac and Linux.

More like the smell of mathematical facts.

They seperate out the donations per platform on most bundles. The dollar amount is usually about double on Mac
and Linux.

Well, to be fair, linux owners DO contribute more to the humble bundles, due to supporting a cause that benefits them (as far as I know, linux support for games is RARE), or as you mentioned, elitism.

And as a Windows user, I can confirm that I will be cheap and only contribute the bare minimum to get all these games plus Saints Row: The Third.

This one just makes me laugh.  THQ really needs help right now.  I'm grabbing it because there are some pretty good games there and getting them for whatever I want to pay is awesome.  And yes, I'm a cheap Windows gamer and went one penny above the minimum. :)

They really should have made this at least for Mac (unless they've never released Mac versions).  I can understand Linux as it'd probably cost as much as they make just to port the games to Linux.

Yeah, it's not that Mac and Linux are "proper hardcore" It's a number of factors:

- Not as many games on those platforms, so games have a higher value
- Not as many users on those platforms, so less low dollar contributors
- Using Mac or Linux is a choice which takes some effort. People who are willing to make that choice often are either financially able to do so or place a higher value on software than the average computer user.
- We are so indie we listen to bands you probably never heard of and drink free-trade organic vegan dog urine.

I have atleast a dozen games I haven't even bothered to install and about another dozen I probably haven't made it past the intro section.

I bought the THQ collection even though I only wanted Saints Row and Metro (not sure what Red Faction is, but I have no interest in the war games). I wish I could gift away Darksiders though as I already own it.

Red Faction is actually a FPS on Mars if I remember correctly. You are fighting some evil corporation that makes life hell for the miners to turn a bigger profit. You're a rebel that is fighting on Mars so yeah, Red Faction. The notable thing about the first game is the geomod engine that let you blow holes in just about anything in the level with explosive weapons.

I got the Bundle even though my primary operating system isn't even Windows. It's a good deal and if you feel guilty about it, there is something wrong with you seriously. Pay more if you wish to wash the guilt away or give blood or something. They are all good games and it would be more of a shame for them not to be played.

Unfortunately, I don't think Red Faction has been an FPS for several iterations now. It's all third person nowadays. How much destruction is still present in the series is also unknown to me. Armageddon looked like it could be decent enough. I grabbed the bundle entirely for Saints Row and Metro 2033, personally. I already had Darksiders, and couldn't care less about a bunch of generic war titles.

Having finished Metro 2033, it is unfortunately more linear than I had hoped. It's not as on rails as a COD game, but it's not quite as open as a Dues Ex game. It's most definately not as open as it's fore bearers, the Chernobyl series. Because of how the AI works you really only have two play styles, sneak about killing everyone or sneak about killing less/few people. You can't gun-ho the game at all. Even when using stealth the AI is so quick to react they get a shot at you even if you nail them from the darkness with a lethal headshot with a silenced weapon once they are on alert. They shoot faster than a bullet!

Great atmosphere and it's a very grim, but nice world to kill in. Shame some of the gameplay elements don't quite fit properly.

Titan Quest and the Red Faction expansion pack were both just added to the bundle as well. I friggin' love Titan Quest, and it's still byfar the best looking action RPG out there. Of course, it doesn't appear to be the Gold Edition, so you'll still need to pick of the Immortal Throne expansion pack.
