Nintendo Direct - Which version do you prefer?
« on: August 29, 2012, 07:21:55 PM »
Do you prefer the North American Nintendo Direct, or the Japanese Nintendo Direct?

I prefer the Japanese version because of it's simplistic presentation. It's just Iwata standing in a room with a single camera, talking directly to the audience. It's direct and to the point.

Contrast this with the North American version, which is set up like PR video with it's quick edits and multi-camera setup. It looks too jarring.

North American, because it gives us info about North American releases (which matters more).

I choose Iwata.
Carmine Red, Associate Editor

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

I much prefer Iwata's nintnedo directs. I wish the American version was as simple as the Japanese one.

NoE version.

Shibata is cooler than Reggie. Plus it is much more akin to the Japanese Nintendo Directs than NoA's

I prefer the style used in Japanese presentations, but half of the content is meaningless.
(Obviously content in the North American version is more useful.)

You lucky Europeans get someone from Japan to run NOE, but here in America, we're stuck with useless American executives who more than likely know nothing about video games.

Iwata and his colleagues know what it's like to develop video games, so they're perfect for running Nintendo. So why couldn't NOA hire someone with more experience?

NOA do know what they are doing, can't blame them for making good business decisions. NOA is more independent than NOW (who are just puppets and do whatever NOJ tells them).

Also, aren't European Nintendo Directs usually just taking the Japanese one and subtitling it? That is pretty useless.

Iwata was a game developer, so he knows Nintendo and gaming much better than Reggie. NOA keeps hiring people from outside the industry to promote their products; Reggie is just a marketing guy, he has no gaming experience. Why can't NOA hire more people like Iwata or Miyamoto to run their branch?

My point is, NOA needs someone who understands gamers and the industry. Reggie, Cammy, Scott Mofitt, etc. don't understand gamers or the industry, because they were hired for their management experience and PR tactics. But the problem with that is that they can't really connect with gamers on their level, they don't know what it's like to actually develop video games.

Contrast this with how Nintendo Japan is run, they hire people who have insider experience; that's why Iwata was promoted to president, because of his work at HAL.

No NoE have recently started hosting their own Satoru Shibata (President of NoE) has hosted two Nintendo Directs for Europe. (The XL one and the one before I believe).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-9rugKCbA4  That was the latest one (XL one).
