Munchkin

In the world of Analogue gaming, has anyone ever played the card game Munchkin?

Great fun!
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

I've played it once or twice. It's been around for quite a while now, hasn't it?

Yeah, I've played it.  I own Space Munchkins.   There is a Table Top with Wil Wheaton playing Munkchkins with Steve Jackson.

Meh... I'm not anti-Munchkin, but my opinion is a bit different.

The first couple of times you play are a lot of fun.  But the jokes get old (pretty quickly in fact), there is a lot less skill than luck, and tons of screw-your-neighbour cards usually mean the game takes way too long unless people get tired of blocking others and decide to just crown a winner.

Of course, all of the negatives can be trumped by playing with a group of good friends.  In that case "taking too long" usually isn't a problem and there is plenty of room to make up your own jokes.

Have you tried Munchkin Quest?  It adds a big board that you can explore, persistent monsters roaming around, and a bunch of other new features. Kind of like "super deluxe Munchkin RPG"... although some would argue that it adds content that doesn't really belong there in the first place.

Munchkin is a game like Fluxx that really requires having people you just enjoy spending time with.  Thats almost true of every card game of its ilk.  I might try Munchkin Quest.   I like to pick up Zombie DIce myself because I think its basic enough for my son to play.

Munchkin confused me when I tried to play it, I understood Fluxx immediately though.

The Tabletop always does a good job of explaining the games there playing, the vidoe I posted.  That might make it clearer.  Though I've never had the board.

My god, do I ever hate Munchkin! Really, there are so many great card (and board) games out there that it boggles my mind that Munchkin is as popular and expansive as it is.

The cards are humorous enough... the first or second time you see them. After that it becomes a rather dry affair. You depend entirely upon the luck of the draw when acquiring items and progressing. That is until somewhere hits level 8 or 9... then everyone teams up and ****-cans that person down to nothing. The game always ends up slowing to a crawl because whenever anyone is about to win, everyone else gangs up on them.

If you want a light, humorous, time conscience card game, then I would suggest Give Me the Brain over the likes of Munchkin or Fluxx.
