I had a weird problem trying to order from them before... apparently your Paypal account has to be linked to a credit card or they won't allow payments from it. When I asked them about it, they told me I should just use a bank transfer instead (of course that costs way more than what I was going to save).

That's not true.  Your PayPal account can be linked to either a bank account or a credit card.  There's no additional cost for the buyer either way.  However, the seller usually prefers a bank transfer because then they don't have to pay the 3% transaction fee.

That's generally true (at least, I find it's true for 99% of sellers), but when I tried to place an order through Play-Asia and pay with Paypal, they would not let me continue without entering a credit card number (even though not only was my account linked to my bank account, but there was more than enough present in my Paypal balance to cover the charge). Paypal gave me the message "This retailer doesn't accept eChecks" when I attempted to manually change the payment option.

When I asked Play-Asia about it, I got the following reply:

Hi Jason,

thank you for contacting Play-Asia.com.

You may consider to use other payment methods listed in the payment email.

Nevermind then.  I figured you were somehow unfamiliar with PayPal.  I guess Play-Asia just sucks.

You raise an interesting point though: it doesn't cost any more to accept balance transfers... so why is it every once in awhile you run into an online retailer that doesn't (Godaddy is the only other one I've ever seen like that).

Credit card payments are instantanious.  Bank transfers are take a couple days to clear.  My guess is some retailers don't want to deal with that.  However, since you said you have enough cash in your PayPal balance to cover it, I have no idea why they wouldn't accept it.  Perhaps you can't accept one without accepting the other?

Well, here's a great deal for someone in Canada who hasn't picked up a DS yet. It's the DS, Metroid Prime Hunters, and a USB WiFi dongle for $200 CDN. That's about $50 less than if you bought them separately.

Also, a while back Zellers had a great deal for the DS; I was surprised that it was so low so early. It was a DS plus a game of under $40 for $150 CDN. Most of the games were covered.. I forgot to post it here, and I just remembered about it, so it may not still be on.

Saw it mentioned elsewhere on the forum, but this page has a coupon for $5 off any DS game at Best Buy.

Combine that with the fact that American Sk8land is only $20 at BB these days, and you can get some Tony Hawk love for only $15.

I went in to use the coupon for RES and left with Sk8land, a game I hadn't even planned to get.  But for $15 I'll try it.

They've got quite a few $20 games there these days - Harry Potter, Ridge Racer, Urban Asphault were the other ones that stood out.  Looks like you can use the coupon with any of them, so have at it.

Sadly, my Best Buy did not have any Sk8lands left. They did, however, have Bomberman for $15.

Fire Emblem (the first one released on the GBA in America, also known as "Rekka no Ken" in Japan) is $20 Canadian at Superstore.

If you don't already know of the goodness of Fire Emblem, then you need to get it.

Gamecube LOgitech Speed Force Wheel with accessory kit (pedals & lap attachment) new for $9.99 at Amazon.com.

See CheapAssGamer for the link to Amazon.  You must register as a user if you aren't already.

btw on Amazon it actually says its for the PS2, but it's the Gamecube version.  A couple other posters on CAG confirmed this and I can confirm it as well.  I got it today and it rocks.  It supports a bunch of racers including Burnout 2, F-Zero GX and I think all the Need for Speeds.  Also MKD supports it.  There's a PGC Review on it btw that lists a few additional older supported games and there might be a few others as well.  GReat wheel.  Great fun.

Unless you absolutely need a ds lite, there are some great deals going on for the blue ds at amazon.com.  $99 for either the blue bundle with Nintendogs or with Animal Crossing.
