LOL, that coming from a Nintendo REP no less.

The key is nintendo's comparing MS's 8 million units (Dec 31, 2002) numbers and comparing them with Nintendo's CURRENT numbers (9.3 Million March 31st).  That's pretty much one sided.

Big N did the same thing last year when the Xbox launched in euro.  Nintendo was using current numbers and comparing them with number MS gave two months eariler.

So really nintendo isn't LYING but at the same time it's a bunch of PR BS at it's best.

If you want sources, there's NPD Jan-March sales which shows the Xbox leading by a majority which cancel's out GC's lead of 200K in Japan sales (media-create or theres a few on the-magicbox.com site as well).

Which only leaves Euro/Aus for the GC.  Do you really think the GC is outselling the XBox there?  MVC is the only source that I know of that does quartly figures for the entire europe, and Chart-track for the UK).

Plus what about the other markets?  GC hasn't launched anywhere's else, but MS and Sony has.  Korea, Hong Kong, even a few south american countries even.  Charts?  Unknown except for the inital Xbox sales from Korea.

And Nintendo even confirmed themselves that they didn't reach the 10 million mark (march 31st deadline) goal.

Considering both consoles were within range of 1/2 million from each other at the begining of 2003, where did nintendo gain these 800K from?

Fact is the only misinformation I gave was about FF not being on the Cube (though I'm 50% right since it's a spin-off).

Ymeegod, in this thread you haven't provided any real hard evidence to disprove IGN's claim of Nintendo having a million and a half lead over xbox. If you wanted to back your claim, than by all means do so.

I trust a nintendo rep with my life, than rather trust M$ on it's numbers "ahem"  remember a certain xbox was suppossed to push well over 100mill polygons? yeah me too. Microsoft had to reduced that number dramatically. Remember the figures for GameCube? no? yeah, thought so as well. it was 6 to 8 million if my memory serves me right. But here's the kicker that was a very modest figure from Nintendo. But EA did some benchmarks and say GC doing well over 20-44 mps and that's with effects.

Now that may have no revelence to this, but it shows that I rather beleive nintendo than exaggerated numbers from M$.

Also how do you know what nintendo is using to get those numbers? I want a reliable source.

Ok I might remind you that Xbox isn't doing well in Korea let alone any asia market, so your point there is very moot at best. Also you mentioned the NPD from Jan. to Mar. it's curently May and that's about two months that has gone, anything could have happened since then. Also here in NA the free game deal and Zelda joinning the ranks could easily increased demand for a GC with such a sweet deal. Also think about what will happen when the free GBP come with a GC deal. Buisness will really start to pickup. I can gurrantee that.

LOL, they only do monthly sales (we should get april's in a few days I'm guessing, and may isn't even finished yet).  My point is if the sales aren't out then what is Nintendo basing MS sales on?  Yeah, that's the rub.

And do you realize how many times Nintendo has "fudged" facts?  And I'm not saying MS hasn't either but lately MS is providing numerous sources to back it's claims--which is the reverse from last year.  If MS is providing three/four independant sources while Nintendo is only providing one which one would you believe?

As for Korea and the other asia markets, sure it's not selling like hotcakes but a few thousand per week is better than 0.  At least MS/Sony are trying other markets, you really never know when a boom will occur (I really doubt Blizzard knew that Starcraft/Diablo would be such a hit in korea prior to it's launching).  That can be said about any market or product.

As for numbers, like you said, it's stated in the existing NPD thread.

Actually the Xbox does hit 100 million polygons per cycle but that's RAW, MS stated from the begining that it'll hit 16million will all effects on vrs nintendo's 12 million will full effects on.

Hell if you really want just the raw data, Sony claims it's hitting 66 million without effect and  16 million full.  :0.

Really the polygons don't mean much because the differences in hardware for example 8 hardware lights for the GC which the other consoles don't have.  

Hell I still have a guy (sharkyextreme) who believes the PS2 is the most powerful .

GCN has sold at least 2 million or about that in Japan, and Xbox isn't even close to one million last I checked. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure GCN has far more than only 200k lead in Japan.

Based on each companies financial reports, Nintendo has shipped 9.4 million by March 2003 and Microsoft has shipped 8 million by Dec 2002. We won't find out how much Microsoft shipped until the end of June.

Um yeah 200k lead in 4 months. Or should I say, PER 4 months. In fact, more than that. GCN sold a lot more than 200k units over the Xbox during the holiday season. If you add them up, you'll see the GCN's enormous lead in Japan does in fact make up for the Xbox's fairly small lead in the USA. The Xbox is leading by a few million here, sure, but the GCN has sold a few million more in Japan as well.

Actually the figures from Europe aren't pretty much the same...they do lean towards the Xbox. But the lead in Japan definately cancels things out worldwide.
And I'm not saying one has sold more than the other. You people shouldn't be obsessed with finding out if your precious system has sold more than the "enemy". I'll tell you right here and now that trying to compare sales numbers is futile.

Personally I could care less about how well a console sells, or whose in first, second, third, or whatever. As long as I have the console(s) I like, and the console(s) that have the game(s) I want to play, I'm happy.

Very true. EVERYONE gives different sales figures. It's extremely hard to compare two consoles side by side by sales in just one country, let alone the world. And these "private" organizations that have the "right" figures are almost always affiliated with the "leading" company itself.

That's not really sad.  You have to trust some people with your life, and a Nintendo rep is probably a better choice than the majority of the population.

But I'd just rather trust them with my cube (almost as sacred as my life, though ).

Anyone who's talked to enough company reps knows that they are just people. They're not the gods of knowledge for their company. While for many of us, being a rep for a company like Nintendo would seem ideal, for many of the current reps (for any company), it's just a job. They don't all keep up with sites for the latest news. At the end of the day, they go home to their significant other and kids.
