im just thinking cuz they're releasing the gamecube/gameboy player bundle for regular price of a gamecube.  Thats a really cool bundle plus alot of people enjoy gameboy advance and gamecube games so i can just see people rushing to get their own.  Do you think this bundle'll screw microsoft xbox up the a$$ and start challenging the sony ps2?

i dont think they will ever get to the top again because of the way they do their work
nintendo will always have a big user base because of the loyal nintendo fans
they will not have the biggest unless they can make their next machine the best and most user friendly
eventhough the gamecube is the most user friendly (easy to make games on) they do not market well
they must get a big 3rd party list going and have them develope right away and not these games that come out months after the other console versions
i believe nintendo now is making the right strides to meet that goal and in a few years they may be top again
but i dont believe so- i hope they will but i dont think it will happen
i call the big one bitey.

I don't think advertising is the biggest problem because people who are not hardcore gamers or Nintendo fans usually don't care about the gamecube, and ads won't change that.  Nintendo must make games that appeal to them and then market them correctly.  They must also find a way to distinguish themselves from the competition because right now most of the people find titles on Xbox and PS2 more appealing.

I think the potential is definitely there for them- we never thought they'd be at the bottom, but obviously we were proven wrong in that respect, so why think they can't attain the top once more? I think it's perfectly plausible IF Nintendo plays their cards right.

Well, the thing about Nintendo is they have HUGE potential, but that potential needs to be marketed properly. Nintendo has the games to make a number one position in the industry extremely possible, but until they get a new marketing agency, that potential is being flushed down the toilet. I could go on for ages about Nintendo's crappy marketing, but ill just leave it at that.

but nobody's really answered my question, nintendo is selling a gamecube with a free gameboy player and a choice of a free game.  gameboy advance is second only to ps2 with well over 30 million users and is supposed to be the fastest selling system?  Will this help gamecube sales if nintendo markets this new hardware properly?  Sony is obviously getting scared because of what nintendo's doing.  I think the key to victory for is through the game boy player, its Nintendo's only hope.  Sony realizes this and is trying to act to protect their market share. I hope nintendo destroys the psp.  Anyways do any of you think the same way?  I hope Nintendo destroys those sony bastards.  Nintendo better not fall for the same trick twice or else say good bye to nintendo forever.

Yes I agree they should destroy those bastards.  I don't think that the GB player is gonna do it though.  I don't know what will, but it's too late in the game for ANYTHING to bring the GC to the top.  As much as I'd love to see Nintendo once again rule the market, I think that we should get used to the idea that it's not going to happen anytime soon.  Nintendo has a horrible image, and the only thing that can heal that is time.

It will do almost nothing to the PS2 lead.  It may help with the Microsoft situation though.

Japan:  GBA SP>PS2
USA: GBA SP>PS2
Europe: GBA SP>PS2
everywhere else: GBA SP>PS2

now i hope you people understand why i think gamecube might do a 360 in sales if they bundle the gameboy player at the exact right time.

Market to the Pokemon fanatics and BAM (with your spice weasel)

Seriously, if Nintendo are going to do TV adverts and such for this, base it around Pokemon. Wow "dudes" you can now play your Pokemon on the big screen! Way awesome! Radical! Boo-ya! Gnarly!

Surfs up!

They'll be onto a winner.

But in all reality, no. This won't put Nintendo on top. I didn't know they liked to be on top in the first place, I don't pay much attention to the "big" N's sex life.

Not this generation.

As for the future, it's possible. It may not look like Nintendo is going to change its stance anytime in the near future, but you'd be surprised at how much things change in a decade or so. And bear in mind that this is only the third generation of the modern game industry, and all three major companies are here to stay for a loooong time. There's not telling what may happen. Microsoft could collapse by 50 years for all we know. Of course, it probably won't

K_Icyfire, it seems as though you can't be convinced.  Sure the GBA SP has a hold on the handheld market.  Just think about it, as of right now there is zero competition.  So everybody who wants to play a handheld console is stuck with the GBA SP (I'm not saying it is a bad system, I love mine).  However, if you try to drag the handheld market into the console market, it won't flip-flop the entire sales pyramid; it just won't do it.  It may help Nintendo sales, in fact it probably will; but, and you can quote me on this, PS2 has the lead for good in this generation of console sales.

Nintendo should fire thier advertising group people and hire someone capable. Advertisments for the GCN have just sucked, esp. at E3 with those fake celebrities.

Nitnendo has a good cash vault. They should try being extravagent and spend some money on advertising.

The worst part is, when they advertise, those commercials suck.

"but nobody's really answered my question"

That's because there's no real easy answer- they could just as easily flop and fold up as completely destroy the competition and rise to the top again. There's no cut and dry answer.

Every Gamecube commercial I've seen is good (or Nintendo at all, for that matter).  PS2 commercials are really horrible; they nauseate me.  Xbox commercials are better, but not much.  Worse thing is, PS2 and Xbox commercials come on a lot more frequently than Nintendo.

I think it's possible, but unlikely.  The main problem with the situation is that the world consists of 92% idiot, so only 8% will even consider buying a Gamecube (the others are restrained by stereotypes and they need to conform to whatever social class they're in (usually annoying nerd)).

I don't think so. Nintendo isn't interesting in being number 1, by this I'm suppose you mean consoles sales and not profits because they are number one in CONSOLE profits right now. (Excluding the Handheld market.)

One of the reason is Nintendo doesn't believe that a game system should be a multimedia center and they fasion all their game systems around this concept to play games and games only. And the systems that has more functions have higher sales because people buy the systems for more than games.

Nintendo also focuses on profits for everything they do. And they are proving that this way can work, even though it puts them in the #2/#3 position.

So it lead me to believe that they aren't going to try to be #1 in console sales and number power. Unless they snatch up another game series like Pokemon except for their console.
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

While Nintendo may say they're not interested in being number 1, what they really mean is they're not FOCUSING on being number 1- anyone claiming they don't want to be in the top spot again is lying.

The GB player bundle is a really ncie deal, but the best deal for Nintendo would be to offer a Gamecube/GBA bundle for like $200- $20 more than a PS2 or XBox but you get *2* consoles. Plus, they should include a GCN-GBA link cable- with a deal like that, their connectivity games would sell a LOT better.

Anybody who knows nintendo, knows that they want to be number #1 again. And what nintendo is doing with third parties and expanding their offices. They are posed to make one hell of an effort to return to their glory.

well i know nintendo can be number one again. and i think we will see more advertising and a better launch of the next nintendo console. nitendo is holding its own in terms of consoles sold, but the most important thing is that they are making the most money. if nintendo did get back on top in the console industry they would have to price games cheaper. thats one thing people like about ps2. cheap games. besides that though i htink they have what it takes to do it.

anybody wanna take a bet?  im betting nintendo will begin to dominate the japanese market alot more.  have you guys seen the sales of the gba sp? its beating out ps2!! a little hand held.  i really think sony is terrified of nintendo's hand held.  Im not sure about usa but im guessing that the gb player will at least help out a little bit. same goes for europe.  Advertising is the key to this one.  The idea of playing all your game boy games on your tv with better graphics is a really cool idea.  Dont you guys want one?  im sure the casual gamer will love it.
