3DS eShop has a 2GB File Size Limit!? Nope. it was a misquote.

Quote from: Team Meat via NintendoGamer
“[WiiWare's] 40MB is horrible, but [3DS's] 2GB is reasonable. Super Meat Boy would have been on WiiWare if we could have had just a few more megabytes of space – you can only compress stuff so much before you have to start cutting out huge parts of your game. Unfortunately, at that point, it just isn’t worth the time.â€

“If we can in the future, we’d like our next game to be on Wii U as well as everything else.â€
No more complaining about file sizes now.

40MB was a little ridiculous, glad Nintendo listened to the devs about it.
Maybe Wii U will bump it up to 4.7GB now that we have HDD options.

Is 4.7 a special number? Was that the gamecube disc capacity? Just wondering why you picked that one.

4.7GB is the DVD size limit

Most games from the last gen could fit on 1 DVD (lots of dual-layered games too though), so hopefully if 3rd parties are gonna be insistent on late ports of "last gen" games, they'll either provide them as eShop downloads or just throw them on the disc with a sequel or compilation.

Single layer, but dual layer is about 8.5GB

For Wii U, maybe 4.7GB or so for original games, but allow retail Wii U games (which can go above that number) to be on there too.

I did kinda address the single/dual layer thing in my previous post, but...

Retail Wii U games could be 25GB+ in size.
Have you seen how long it takes to download a small ass game like SMB on the VC on Wii or 3DS? and then how long it takes to download 40MB on WiiWare? Do you really want to wait 2 weeks to download 22.64GB's to the Wii U to play a game?

Virtual Console is slow to download, I can download larger games on Xbox Live in a shorter time. If Nintendo can speed that up, it may be OK.

2GB's is fine, most indie games are well under that and most 3ds games as well.  Think Capcom's RE Revelations &MGS SE 3DS are the only two games that use more than 2GB.

And what MS and Sony did was to charge extra, namely different tiers in their royalities plans to indie developers to offset games that required more bandwidth so I'm expecting nintendo to do the same for the WII U since some DLC content packs are going easily break 2GB.

Pretty surprising, not like the 3DS has a HDD so I am impressed that they are allowing 2GB.

My guess is that 2GB was chosen because it is the size of the SD card included with the 3DS, so they know that everyone will be able to download such a game if they want it. I doubt we'll actually see games of that size, since using up the whole card would probably turn many people off from buying it. Or at least for a while, maybe there will be larger games if signs point to many 3DS owners having larger SD cards.

Misquoted in an interview. I don't know what the eShop size limit is. Some editorial liberties were taken with what I said.
Original Quote on size restrictions: "...or if they do they are reasonable restrictions (40MB is horrible....2GB is reasonable)."
Never said that 2GB was the size restriction on eShop. I do not know what it is.

I'm sure its a good size, since no developer has come out to complain about it. I would just like to see a top notch 3rd party 3DS game be released. Those 1st party titles (like usual) are dominating the 3DS charts.

You're not allowed to speak of that game until you beat the first few chapters and unlock Raid Mode.

Assuming you mean on the eShop, but Resident Evil Revelations is a top notch game for 3DS.  I'm just about to finish off the main game, and it's been an absolute blast.  The worst thing I can say about the game is that it might not sell the series to people who aren't already Resident Evil fans...

I 75% agree with you there.   There's so much about the game which is, while VERY different from the direction of RE4 and RE5, is kind of like "Okay, let's take everything that was wrong with RE1 to RE3, fix it, and keep everything that was good about those older games."  I know a lot of people say the same thing about RE4, but if you can imagine it, it's really true in this one because it still feels like an old RE game, but just the good bits.

I prefer RE4 over RE:R by a lot. RE:R almost feels like it went backwards, when in fact it's parallel in gameplay. RE4 had upended the tea table and it is so much better for it. Not to say that RE:R is bad, I just prefer Skill based over Stat based gameplay.

The largest download I've ever done on a console was DC Universe Online on the PS3, which was a whopping 18GB and took hours and hours to download. Incredibly huge downloads like that are the exception and not the norm, but the Wii U should have the ability to have them. Current gen systems can do it, so if the Wii U is a next gen system then it better at least be able to do what current systems can.

Nintendo horribly caps the speed that you can download things from their servers, SONY does too. Nothing on the Wii Shop Channel should take more than a few seconds to download. The eShop on 3DS is a bit quicker, but it's annoying that you have to "unwrap" things after you download them, same with "installing" things on PS3.

I don't think it's just Nintendo capping the download speeds, because the internet access on Nintendo devices are just slow all around.

I always figured it was the wireless cards they were using, but I could be wrong.

Really? Awww. I LOVE the little touches Nintendo puts into their console experiences like getting to unwrap my 3DS downloads.
