I had read about that, but I didn't know it was final.

I'm surprised they didn't just go with sound-alikes like what was said before when I first read this news. Sound sound-alike actors would have taken that $440k spread out over the next 4 seasons just to have the job.

With the money those sound actors were making I'm sure they are ready to move on by now.

With the money those voice actors are making they could have retired ages ago, but why?
With that kinda money for work that comes almost second nature, I would do it till I couldn't do it anymore.

But if they are smart, they will negotiate for one more year at a large paycut and a larger slice of merchandising, syndication DVD sales on the back end.

And throw in a few direct to DVD movies/specials/Treehouse of Horrors episodes down the line.

They gotta milk this thing till the teet is bone dry and keep that residual income flowing in.

...
I do it till they tried to change the money on me because it would eventually get tiresome.  Which they are trying to change the money downward so, I be getting out as well.  If I felt the itch to do the work again with those credentials I could easily pick up another gig.  Though it might just be cameo admittedly.

take less upfront, take more on the back-end.

in the end, you probably end up making much more over a longer period of time.

I used to be a huge Simpsons fan, but once I watched the horrible Simpsons movie made a few years back much of my interest instantly evaporated. I was expecting a lot out of that movie, but it failed to deliver. I've only watched the series sporadically since then.

I've never enjoyed the Simpsons, though I can respect its role in western animation history. The thing is, it's hard to be happy about a series this ridiculously long being canceled when I have no faith that Fox will actually replace it with anything good.

The movie wasn't bad. The script wasn't quite film quality though. It felt like an extended episode in just about every regard.

I haven't watched The Simpsons regularly for over a decade. I occasionally catch a newer episode though, and I still find it to be quite entertaining in those isolated bouts. The tone is definitely different nowadays, but it still beats ADD riddled crapshoots like Family Guy.

Family Guy is a lot less ADD then the first 4 seasons when it was good.

I think the most appropriate response to this is "HAW HAW!"

Simpsons actually went on long enough that it is not weird anymore for me to say I used to like it but have hated it for years.  I used to get a lot of flack for that as there was still a lot of people that had watched it around the same time I did who felt the show was still funny.  As my brother says "we thought the Simpsons sucked before it was cool". ;)  Seriously though in the last few years everyone else we knew who defended it now hates it.  It is now normal to states which season is your cut off point of Simpson fandom.

My cut off point is season 7 and that is a pretty close call.  There are some real groaner episodes in that season, like the one where Lisa becomes a vegetarian.  But it also has the Radioactive Man movie episode which is one of the best.  The season pales in comparison to the sheer gold of seasons 3-6 though and that's probably why 7 is my cut off point.  It was clear watching it at the time that the show had already peaked and that it was the start of the downslide.  Once that happens it is time for a show to end gracefully.  No TV show has some great years and then sucks for a few seasons and then becomes great again.  Once they've peaked they just get worse and worse so quit while you're ahead.

That's exactly what I mean. Not even a particularly great episode, either. There have been episodes which I would have been happy to have seen extended to 2 hours, but that wasn't what the movie delivered. I don't know what the episode was called, but I remember one episode which looked into the lives of various Springfield characters. That would have been a great basis for the movie, but sadly that wasn't what happened.

I don't disagree with you in general, but clearly you haven't seen much anime.  It's pretty common for just what you describe to happen with long-running anime series (as well as on a micro level within a single season), especially if they have years of filler while waiting for the manga to catch up.

So what will Seth McFarlane crank out to replace it, I wonder?

The Simpletons

It's a family based show revolving around a Father, Mother and 2 children, with a 3rd member of the family being included for comedic relief. They have wild neighbors and live in a crazy town, but this family is very simple minded and therefore just trying to get through their day.

Coming to FOX the Fall after next as part of the McFarlane Animation Domination Block.

Seriously enough McFarlane should have gotten 1 show and Fox should have reached for new talent to finish the rest of the block. That show should have been American Dad.

The West Wing did pretty much that. It kind of went to **** when Aaron Sorkin left after season 4, but the final season was brilliant. It's certainly not common, but it does happen every now and again.

I'm not sure if the cancellation would help this, but it seems like it might: I really, really want this show to come to Netflix.

Amen to that. It's not like Jon Lovitz is doing anything anyway. And with a Battleship movie coming out soon, the show would write itself.

Someone told me Mike Judge is going to bring back Beavis and Butthead. Its not coming to Fox, but its animated so I thought I'd mention it. Speaking of Mike Judge, it was a shame when King of the Hill got cancelled to make room for the Cleveland Show.
