This film is not so much dark in the visual sense but some of the dialouge and acting as well. Also, supposedly this film is what gave Miyamoto the idea of creating Zelda and if you watch closely you can almost see similarities between the two.

Creepiest? That's hard to say. Right off the bat though, Eraserhead comes to mind. :)
