Netflix news!

Yay!

Now I can casually catch up on (most of) the Marvel & DC animated offerings, and everything [Adult Swim] that interest me while looking for something to stream on Netflix.

http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/08/netflix-super-hd-3d-streaming/

Just ran across this. Super HD ( >1080p) and 3D streaming is available on Netflix, but only on certain ISP's at the moment.

SuperHD (&3D streaming? )will be available on Wii U, PS3, Roku, Win8, AppleTV and Bluray players if your ISP allows it.

Quote
Rumors that Netflix was offering ISPs access to higher quality streams in return for partnering on distribution surfaced early last year, and were followed by the announcement of its Open Connect CDN network in June. Now the full picture has been revealed with the company's announcement of "Super HD" 1080p and (in the US only, for now) 3D streaming, which comes to its customers at no extra cost, but only on certain devices plugged in to to Open Connect partner ISPs. The hardware list includes PS3, WiiU, Windows 8, Roku, Apple TVs as well as Blu-ray players and smart TVs with 1080p support.

According to Netflix, most of its international streams are already going through compatible ISPs, however the only major participants announced in the US currently are Cablevision and Google Fiber. Watch Instantly customers can see if their ISP on the list by visiting the Super HD page and, if it isn't, they're encouraged to call and ask for it.

We've been seeing some 3D ready titles pop up on the service in the last few weeks and now viewers can access titles like Art of Flight, Immortals and several titles from 3net. According to Dan Rayburn of Streaming Media Blog, the higher-quality encodes are targeted for 7 Mbps, while 3D streams top out at 12 Mbps.

Looks like I'll be calling Comcast a little early this year.... need to make use of this 3DTV somehow.

That can't be right, the AppleTV only supports 720p.

Actually, Apple says Apple TV supports 1080p: http://www.apple.com/appletv/

Apple released the 1080p capable version in March 2012.

Oh that's right, they did a new one last year. I forgot, because Apple half-asses that whole product line.

I still wouldn't recommend an AppleTV to my worst enemy unless all their content was on iTunes.

AirPlay is a really, really nice feature if you have iOS devices. If only they could get the level of built-in functionality up to the standards of something like a Roku box it'd be a great product. That's what upsets me; it has the potential to be amazing, but they just don't care enough to try.

That definitely helps (though I prefer the interface of Plex) but it still doesn't fix everything. I don't get why Apple doesn't have an App Store for it where I can get things like an MLS Live app. I can use the AppleTV to watch MLS games, but only if I stream them from the app on my iPhone or iPad. It's just half-assed.

Anyone use Crackle? It's worse than not watching anything. You have Seinfeld and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, and then just about everything else is terrible.

I really, really wonder if Arrested Development Season 4 will ever hit DVD.  I want it to complete my set. :(

I also wonder how the Netflix release will work.  I don't have Netflix and I'm not against signing up for a month just to watch Arrested Development - but think I'll be able to just sign up with one of the various free trials and use that to marathon the entire fourth season?

I just finished Arrested Development s4 on Netflix

far from the best season but fairly entertaining. It had some good laughs, but I didn't really like the same story told from different perspectives over and over again.

but the ending did imply that there could be a season 5. Have we heard anything on that front?

To be fair, it was reported months ago that this season would be like that. I look forward to watching this season eventually, but not on Netflix.

So I am marathoning Fringe right now on Netflix

what is the significance of the "negative" images they show inbetween scenes and episodes?

the leaf, the 6 fingered hand, the apple, the frog.
I think they sometimes have a little yellow light next to them.

is there a significance to these images?
