3DS Ace Combat Title Named
« on: September 13, 2011, 12:01:55 AM »

Get ready to rumble.

Ace Combat 3D Cross Rumble was announced for the 3DS at the Nintendo 3DS Conference 2011, giving the game that was revealed at E3 a proper title.

The game is set to be released sometime this winter, marking the first appearance of the flight combat series on a Nintendo system since 2005's Ace Combat Advance for Game Boy Advance.

It looks like the game will be titled Ace Combat Assualt Horizon Legacy in North America. That is a little misleading since Cross Rumble takes place on Strangereal and not Earth. Oh well, it's just a name.

EDIT: Looking at some Ace Combat wikis and reading up on the Scarface squadron, I'm lead to believe that this Ace Combat 3DS game is a retelling/remake of Air Combat and Ace Combat 2. That would explain the "Legacy" in "Assault Horizon Legacy". Oh, I wonder if a remake of Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere is on the way if Cross Rumble proves successful.

It looked like a remake of Ace Combat 5: Unsung War to me. A Female pilot named Edge is mentioned and looks to be a selectable wingman, but then there is the name Phoenix that isn't in AC5, but that might be a rename for Blaze or edge is a bonus wingman. However, a more likely explanation is this contains levels and the story from all the games in that time line.

Despite looking better every year, levels now are little different from the first AC. I hope they make the AI a bit more aggressive. As much as they want me to feel like some badass pilot, you think in a 6+ to 1 dogfight there would be more missiles in the air.

Making ground attack jets more usable would be great like giving the A-10 a bigger gun rather than the same bloody gun ever other fighter has with bigger/more diverse stores of ground weapons. Currently there is no reason to ever use a ground attack without being forced to.

Pffh. Toilet paper? What do you think cats are for?

I thought of Ace Combat 5 as well when I heard the female pilot with the call sign Edge. Apparently, that call sign was used in Ace Combat 2 along with the surname Nagase. Project Aces is messing with us.

I hope the enemies are more aggressive because I too fell like I'm not being shot at enough in Ace Combat games. It looks the planes move at the slow speed as they did in Ace Combat Joint Assault. I didn't like that change in Joint Assault.

Ah, I would love it if the A-10's GAU-8 was properly represented. I don't expect it, but maybe Assault Horizon on the PS3 and 360 will get it right.
