Topic: Someone is cyber stalking my ExGF

I need your help. Someone has been hacking my exgf's facebook and email for the past month now. She's already changed her password over 10 times now. I'm in no way a computer scientist, but other than keylogging software and blatantly looking over her shoulder, how can this person continually hack her ****?


I asked her who she has told about this, cuz maybe the people closest to her are the ones doing it and she said only me. I'm pretty sure that was a lie but it's beside the point.



She's gotten in contact with facebook and they pulled up her last ip logins to see which don't match. They found these:


on 8/19 IP 68.28.147.113
on 8/22 IP 68.28.147.116
on 8/23 IP 68.28.147.114


Facebook claims that they are near Chicago on a Sprint Network from a phone. Using that information, how do I go about finding this fucker?

The IP addresses might not be accurate location. I live in Rochester, New York, but when I log onto Facebook from my iPad it says I am logging in from Cleveland, Ohio (258 miles away).

Wish I could help you. If it's happened 10 times, I doubt they could be guessing the password (1 or 2 times, maybe), so coming up with a more complicated password (like 30 characters, letters, and numbers) probably wouldn't help. I will let someone with more knowledge of this stuff help.

I bet you're the perp, Unagi. Why else would you even know what's going on in your ex-girlfriend's life?

IPs are never very accurate and can be easily spoofed anyway. Plenty of free proxies out there. She needs to change all of her passwords to different things (not just use one for all). Make sure it is a long password with a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Don't use actual words, as they can be cracked easily. Make sure she changes all of the security questions and answers on all services as well. Don't use things that are public knowledge, like mother's maiden name, first school, etc. Make sure that the failback e-mail (where lost passwords are sent to) is right. If someone has had access, they could have changed that to simply e-mail new passwords to them instead.

If all else fails, take the opportunity to ditch Facebook. It sucks, as all social networks do. Maybe also try getting a real e-mail address instead of relying on free, web-based junk?

Protecting her information is important, but I'm more concerned with finding the asshole who's stalking her. Because stalking her online is one thing, but what if they decide to use the information they find to stalk her in real life?

Reformat the computer, there's probably some awful keylogger and backdoor **** on there. Then change the password and everything (security questions!! etc) on the email, and then the passwords on everything else. What email service does your ex use?
And why are you still in contact with your ex? -_-

In finding the person that's doing it? Probably. Unless they give themselves away, I don't see how you could catch them, really. At this point you should be focused more on damage control and future security methods. SUPER brings up a good point about possible keyloggers and/or backdoors. Those could be present if the stalker has had physical access to the hardware, or through some social engineering, got your ex to download and install said software. You should be able to pick those up pretty easily with a quick scan though.

Nothing social about stroking your own ego online, pretending that people pay attention to your posts. Besides, assuming that this woman is like most people, she is probably greatly aiding the stalker by posting so much private information for the world to see. Try e-mail or a phone call if you want to be social. No one needs junk like Facebook.

But yeah, I'm telling you to reformat the machine before you access anything ever from it. Nuking it from orbit is the only way to be sure. etc.

change all her passwords remotely on a different computer somewhere else, turn on the computer disconnected to the internet and change passwords and stuff. Make sure there are no extra alternate e-mails on her facebook. Make sure all the passwords on her emails are changed.

You are gonna have to give me everything you have on her.
The only way to put an end to this stalking is to stalk the stalker, but in order to do that I'm going to have to stalk her first. So the more efficiently I can stalk her, the sooner I can stalk her stalker.
