Did you read the opening post and see the pic UncleBob linked to? Nintendo sent GameStop a bunch of empty red-coloured DS cases (in a shipment with other stuff).

Those cases are so.... orange.

But what makes you think these are related to a budget line of games if they were only sent to GameStop and are only a bunch of empty cases?

Seems more like Nintendo wants GS to use them for used games to make it very noticeable that the buyer is a cheap second hand gamer with their bright orange cases sticking out in the collection. Or for the recipient to know that the buyer bought it second hand and it is not a new copy.

Gamestop is notorious for opening up games and then selling the opened games as "new". So it may have something to do with that...

Another possibility is that sometimes people trade in games with no case whatsoever, so they just get the game and probably not the manual either so they need something to keep them in. That may be what's going on here.

I know Gamespot/EB used to get blank DS cases for that, though - it's how my copy of New York Times Crosswords came. (btw, if they could get that on The Cover Project, I'd donate.)

They're red.  The photographer has confirmed that they are the same shade as the NSMBWii case.

Gamestop has recently directed all stores to actually throw out used DS cases/manuals.  It was apparently quite the gold mine for awhile. As much as Nintendo is against used sales, I can't see them shipping out free stuff to GS to support used sales.

I see GS using these as dummy cases for pre-orders or something.  I dunno...

That's a huge and unnecessary waste. Are they at least going to recycle those things? Because if that all ends up in a landfill that would be pretty sad...

I would actually boycott them because of this, but I can't because I already don't shop there anyway.

So is GS supposed to open any remaining unopened copies to switch the cases or do you think it's simply for the display case games and used copies?
