Anyone tried making 3D pictures using 3D rendering software?
« on: April 03, 2011, 10:23:54 PM »
I have personal blog that happens to have a 3D version of its logo (I use it for my videos). I realized I could use the software (POV-Ray) to generate a 3D image by rendering the scene twice with slightly different X-coordinates (this is effectively what 3DS games and 3D movies do). I've only made one test image but it seems to work pretty well.

Is this software free and could you possible type out a tutorial on how to do this? I'm interested in making my own 3D pictures.

POV-Ray is free (Google it). It also comes with a ton of sample scenes you can play with.

Making an MPO file (the file) can also be done with some free software (StereoPhoto Maker). You'll need to rename the files to conform to the filenames the 3DS expects.

Dude, the program is extremely confusing. That's why I asked for a tutorial...I can't figure it out.

That's professional-grade 3D software, you can't expect him to produce a tutorial for newbies. Make a scene, render it, move the camera slightly, render it again.

professional-grade 3D software

That's pretty much why I have no idea how to work it.

POV-Ray is more like a programming language than a standard 3-D modeling application. There are some decent tutorials on YouTube you can check out.
