3DS Breaks Nintendo Portable Launch Records
« on: March 29, 2011, 02:20:52 PM »

The 3DS has set a new high for handheld launch sales.

A representative from Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo 3DS broke sales records when it launched this past Sunday. Although no specific figures were revealed, the representative stated "U.S. day-one sales numbers for Nintendo 3DS were the highest of any Nintendo hand-held system in our history".

They further noted that "Nintendo worked hard to get as much product as possible to retailers on day one to meet demand, and we will continue with these efforts moving forward."

The sales figures will be released on April 14 when the NPD releases their monthly report.

They must have been very well prepared. I was able to go into Best Buy when it opened on Sunday and just pick one off the shelf without a preorder.
This is where I would write something witty or funny if I had any ideas.

Yeah, there's piles of 'em everywhere, if they still broke records that must mean their supplies were awesome.

Except for the gamestops in my area seemed like Best Buy had plenty for all. I guess a we wont be seeing Wii like drought ever.

The reason supplies aren't a problem is because Nintendo anticipated the high demand. The problem the Wii had when it launched a few years back was that its success took Nintendo by surprise. Well, because the DS was the huge success that it was it was a no-brainer that 3DS demand was going to be high.

Where I live I am pretty lucky. I can't get my 3ds until next week or so, but I live in a county full of rednecks in Northeast Florida so they never buy nintendo stuff. I went to my local Walmart today and the electronics cashier told me they haven't sold a single 3ds yet. The bottom shelf had at least ten of em.

I resent that. I used to be a Floridian. Where I live now in Washington has WAY more rednecks. XD

The Target in the smallish town next to me had two of each color on the shelf (no idea if they had more out back or not). I wasn't planning on buying one but I impulsively decided to get one. So, now there's two blue and one black on that shelf.
