The Booze Thread
« on: October 14, 2010, 01:57:32 AM »
I'm fond of Pyramid brand brews. I especially like their Apricot Ale. Just tried their Fall seasonal red ale and I'm liking that too.

The one I'm really looking to try is known as Men's Room Original Red. It's named after a local radio show in the Seattle area.

I'd drink too if I had that avatar.

I'm a big fan of the Southern Tier Brewing Company, which is based a bit north of here in Lakewood, NY. I think I've liked everything of theirs I've tried, and am in fact drinking a bottle of Southern Tier 422 as I'm typing this post.

Bell's is probably my favorite brewing company. Two hearted ale is delicious.

Stratos, if you like apricot ale (which is too apricot-y for me), try Magic Hat: Number 9. It's delicious but not too fruity. It's a perfect lunch beer.

I used to not like beer until I tried that apricot ale. It turned out to be a 'gateway beer' for me and now I drink and enjoy all manners of drinks. Though part of the issue may have been me only trying cheap beer before then. I'll look into Magic Hat.

I like Guinness and Harp.

Cheap beer is what you drink to keep your buzz going, it isn't what you start with. Even then, I still refuse to drink Budweiser, it is never tolerable.

I was at a party Friday night and said I'd rather not drink than drink Budweiser, which got some interesting responses. Luckily, the bar we were at had a pretty good microbrew selection, of which I proceeded to try as many as I could. If I'd realized how much they had I wouldn't have had that scotch, it just ended up slowing me down at the end.

If you can get it in your area, Dogfish Head Burton Baton is heavenly. It's a mixed brew of 90 Minute IPA and an English Strong Ale. Too good for words.

Mostly people were surprised, taken aback that I would care that much, and a few people seemed to look down on me for it for being a snob, though they of course didn't come out and say it.

I look down on you for being a snob.

I love good beer, but I'm not above drinking Miller Lite when the occasion calls for it.

EDIT:

I'm relaxing right now listening to RFN 215 and drinking a Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA. Our very own Pale turned me on to it, and while it's fairly expensive, it is very, very good.

You shouldn't drink beers brewed by Miller-Coors or InBev (which owns Anheuser-Busch, among many others) - they cheapen the beer industry by promoting fast food products like Miller Lite. Support your local craft breweries!

They had Southern Tier Pumking on tap and a wide selection of craft beer in bottles; the whole Budweiser thing I mentioned just came up in conversation.

It isn't my fault that the mere taste of Budweiser makes me want to hurl. I can stomach Miller Lite and Coors Lite, but that's about it.

It's easy to stomach lite beer; it doesn't really have a taste, so it doesn't really taste bad.

Pardon my saying so, but I don't think you're going to the right kind of college parties.

It wasn't a college party; it was a retirement party for a family friend being held at a bar.
