All six episodes are going to be released in theaters in 3-D. Are you stoked? Frustrated? Not in the least bit interested?

I personally would like to go to opening night of all six just for the crazy environment and group experience. I also hope he tinkers a bit with the series again. I know some rumors of edits for previous post-prequel releases of the original trilogy talked of editing in extra stuff to better connect with the prequels and I would be down with seeing that happen for this version (things like an Anakin flashback to when Palpatine electrocuted Mace Windu during the final battle on the Death Star 2 in Return of the Jedi). Just so long as Han shoots first (and no new Jar Jar scenes) ;) .

I'll go starting with Episode 3 because the Yoda/Palpatine in 3D is going to blow my gorram mind, and by that time they should have glasses-free 3D.

The first 2 can jump off a cliff, though. (Except for AotC's Mega Man 2 parody sequence.)

Since I like the special editions, I don't share the same feeling some fans do. I think fans of the original versions shouldn't get their hope up, I think most likely Lucas will use the special editions of the movies.

My main problem with 3D movies are that they cost several dollars more. I probably won't see them for that reason (well, maybe Episode III). Kind of annoying that they will only release one per year. That means the last one won't come out until 2017.

Gotta space them out some. I can't afford to go see all of them in a more compressed time frame.

What was the release schedule for when the Special Editions first hit theaters?

Yeah, but I was thinking maybe 2 a year. They are not likely to remain in theatres more than a month, maybe 2.

The Special Edition version of the movie (which was the second time it had been re-released in theatres, the first was in 1982) came out on January 31, 1997. Episode V was re-released on February 21, 1997. Episode VI was re-released on March 14, 1997.

Not the least bit interested.  Not only do I not want to give any movie studio a single penny in support of gimmicky 3D films (especially even more gimmicky 3D like this where it's added on after the movies are already shot and edited), but I'm perfectly happy with enjoying the 6 Star Wars films in the comfort of my own home on Blu-Ray.

Usually adding 3D later on doesn't work well, but despite all the crimes George Lucas has committed against dialogue, you can't deny that he does great things with special effects.

3D films are a gimmick. This is just another excuse for Lucas to squeeze money out of an undeserved fanbase.

I'm gonna take th wait and see approach. The pod race might be cool in 3D, but I need to know for a fact that the 3D won't be shoe horned in like Clash of the Titans, The Last Airbender and [insert another example you personally like]. Though, I think I can trust Lucas to do some good 3D. I think.

I'll go see this, but only if they take out all the absolute garbage that they added to the original trilogy for the remastered special bullshit editions with all the CGI.

Different strokes, different folks, but even though I grew up with the original versions I prefer the special editions.  Yeah, there was stuff added to them that I don't care for (Greedo shooting first, the stupid musical number in Jabba's Palace, and some little additions here and there), but overall I found the positives to outweigh the negatives.  Plus, in their defense the tweaks to the visuals and continual remastering of the film masters have helped the films age fairly well.

As for the addition of 3D, unless Lucas plans to practically recreate the original trilogy in 3D from the ground-up (and, granted, it's Lucas and I don't doubt that he would do it), I don't see how the addition of 3D could be anything more than a stupid gimmick...no better than the addition of 3D to Last Airbender, Alice in Wonderland, etc.  The prequel trilogy would probably turn out a lot better because it was practically created entirely on computers anyway.  I have no doubt that Lucas had all the sets, props, etc. scanned into or created in a computer database with most of the films done on Green Screens, so it would be relatively easy to disassemble and reassemble 3D movies that make better use of the format.

I have yet to be sold on 3D and still pick the 2D option whenever possible. Inception was filmed in 2D yet its the best possible use of three dimensions the hotel fight scene. More of that and i will be sold on it.

As for Star Wars? Pass.

Episode III Yoda/Palpatine and Anakin/Obi-Wan fights will make that one worth it.

I can't see watching a movie made in the 70's in 3D being anything too impressive. I will just sit at home and watch them.

Too bad Lucas is so embarrassed by it that he probably will never let it be seen again, even if it would be easy money. I would love to legally be able to watch it without having to pay high prices for a bootleg version (which are not good quality since recording technology wasn't that advanced in the 1970s).

What order are they releasing the films--original trilogy first or second?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

They are starting with Episode I in 2012, then releasing one a year (so Episode II in 2013, Episode III in 2014, IV in 2015, V in 2016, VI in 2017). So they are going in timeline order.

What's interesting is that Lucasfilm will not be converting the films themselves, only supervising. It's also been confirmed that they will not be adding or changing any special effects. Also of note is that there was no mention of converting the Clone Wars movie into 3D.

Interesting.  I've seen numerous debates about whether a first-time viewer should watch the series in the order they were originally released or chronologically.  I'm not sure if Lucas has ever stated his opinion before, but it seems like he subscribed to the chronological-order camp (which automatically gives credence to the order-of-release viewpoint).  ;D
