Sonic's most colorful adventure yet has a release date and a new trailer.

Sega has announced that the Wii and DS exclusive Sonic title, Sonic Colors, will be released in North America on November 16. In addition to the release date, Sega has released a new gameplay trailer that shows off even more high speed gameplay combined with the new color power-up mechanics.

Players reserving the game at Gamestop will receive a Sonic hat as the pre-order gift.

So this is more or less a full game of daytime levels from Sonic Unleashed. I presume that's what a lot of people wanted - that seemed to be the general consensus in the wake of Unleashed - though the book is still very much unwritten on Sonic Colours. Forgive me for my cynicism, but there's still time for Sonic Team to bugger this game sideways.

It's a mixture of Unleashed daytime levels and Secret Rings.

Huh, what's the difference between the Unleashed daytime levels and the Secret Rings levels.

This is probably because I have never bought a Sonic game since Sonic 3D Blast for the Genesis and don't feel the need to bitch about entertainment I don't own, but Sonic Colors is looking kinda promising. Sonic's still going too fast, though. I wish the developer would look at the Jet Set Radio series for lessons in speeed-based platforming.

Huh, what's the difference between the Unleashed daytime levels and the Secret Rings levels.

The perspective.  Sonic Unleashed used a 2.5D perspective for its Daytime Levels, and Sonic & the Secret Rings used a behind-the-back (and occasionally "in-front-of") 3rd person perspective for its levels.
There was a Signature here. It's gone now.

Oh, but doesn't Unleashed daytime levels also have behind-the-back and in-front-of-face perspectives too? I was confused by the mixture statement since I thought the level design elements of Secret Rings were incorporated in Unleashed daytime levels and it was unnecessary to mention both.

Yeah, I haven't played the full versions of either of the two prior Wii Sonic games in question, but based on the E3 demo Sonic Colors has both "2.5D" and full 3D sections. The 3D sections tend to be with the camera behind Sonic, but not always--sometimes the camera assumes more of a side-scrolling camera (even though Sonic can run toward/away from the camera). There is no auto-scrolling forward, as I believe was the case with Sonic and the Secret Rings.
