As soon as the next GTA game is published on PS2 in 2004, it will publish Vice City and GTA3 on GCN and Xbox.

Just thought you might want to know

Carry on...

So X-box and GC owners get games that came out two and three years ago, respectively.  Not very exciting and not really a good business decision since by that time they will have already either:  bought a PS2 and played the games or played them at someone elses' house.

I wonder what the motives behind this are....

there may be a few that this is new to, but just to let you know, i think PGC already posted this on their site, so most are probably aware. IGN also reported this today so it has to be true!!  Anyways, i guess for the people who haven't seen this, thanks!  I'd probably buy Vice City, but I've already beaten GTA3.  So after the new GTA comes out, will it take roughly 6 months for that to get to X-Box and GC? I assume so since that's the deal for the time period between PS2 -> PC. So about Jan-Feb 2005 is GTA3/GTA:VC and somewheres in the summer/August months we may get the new GTA. Sounds darn good to me!

I've beaten the PC version of GTA3, and will buy and beat GTA: Vice City on my PC later this month....but not everyone has Geforce4 Ti 4400 powered PC's. The xbox and GCN userbases are a lot larger now than when Sony first signed the deal. Combined, the worldwide Xbox and GCN userbases are well over 20 million, about half of the PS2's. And a lot of people are going to buy this game, even if they are 2 and even 3 years old. Heck, Sonic Adventure 2 is an old Dreamcast game and became a million seller on GCN.

While I'm happy that GTA3 and Vice City will both make their way to Xbox and Cube, why would I want to play two games I've already beat? I want the new GTA on Xbox and Cube, not just PS2.

The new one AFTER the one in development may be multiplatform. After all, why not? All user bases are large enough to warrant awesome sales now...more than any bribe Sony can come up with this time. And besides, MS won't let Sony outbid them. They knew their mistake. Heck, even Nintendo acknowledges GTA, and may even try to keep it on cube...I doubt it though....
But I don't care...I got my PC

Where was this anouncement a year ago when I would've cared?

Rockstar needs to include a ton of extra stuff if they want this version to sell.  They should atleast include GTA and Vice City together in the same box.  Hell, by the time this comes out those games will be a few years old.

It's great Rockstar's finally noticing the Cube, but I think everyone who wanted either GTA 3 or Vice City already has it on either their PS2 or PC. I agree- they better HEAVILY soup the ports up (for one, update the craptacular graphics and get rid of those looooooooooong load times).

In related news, I beat Vice City yesterday on my PS2. Nothing better than flying around shooting cops in an Apache attack helicopter.

I'm glad it's coming, but yeah, loads of extras are needed, and some special deal if they want this game to sell. And updated graphics too. I can't take the graphics on the PS2. They just suck.

I don't want to insult anyone here but if you think Rockstar's going to do anything major to these ports then you're clinically insane. I know that you guys are just saying that they should do this or that and that most of you don't expect that to happen but I bet some are expecting Rockstar to update the graphics or something. There's no way that's happening. They may touch up the graphics and improve load times but that'll be about the extent of it. It is possible, though, that these are going to be ported from the PC versions but I don't know what the min specs are for the PC version so I have no clue about that.
What should happen (that at least has a realistic chance of happening) is Rockstar should port the games over and sell them for $20 each. That's it. That's the only way either game will sell decently on GCN or Xbox. As has been stated numerous times in this thread a lot of people already either have or have beaten these games. I myself will buy GTA3 if it's under $30 but I don't know if I can stomach all that 80's crap in Vice City.

Anyway, who really cares? If you really were into the series you probablly would have played it alread and even if you weren't everyone and their sister has the game.

Bad fashion, bad hair. It was ok, 90's still better. But the 80's did bring us Mcguyver and some great movies. Now back to GTA. I believe that GTA would not sell well in it's present condition in 2004 as you know that the GC crowd are somewhat bias towards titles that have polish to them. GTA lacks that polish and also given that it will come out that much later, compared to the games released in 2004, unless there is a game drought in progress, GTA will look like a barstad's kid. It would be better if they gave us a new title or a really polished port of GTA3, something to make it really special. Either way though, for me it is all acidemic as I won't be buying this game anyway.

This is pretty cool I guess but realistically by 2004 who's going to buy these games on Xbox or Gamecube?  GTA is one of those games that everyone who really wanted to play it bought a PS2 for.  It's the big system seller of this generation.  Plus with the mentallity of today's gamers by 2004 these games will be ancient.

If these do get released for Cube then I hope they either bundle them together or release them at a lower price.  I don't want Rockstar to pull a Capcom and charge us full price for games we can get for like $20 new on a different console.

It's rather interesting how Rockstar has no plans on renewing their exclusivity contract with Sony.

While I agree that these games certainly won't have the system-selling power they did on the PS2 by the time they are released, I think Rockstar will still sell a few copies, especially on the Xbox.  Not everyone can afford every system they want.
That's my opinion, not yours.

This news is BOGUS.  I got this tip the other day too, read the Yahoo article and saw it for what it was.  The person that made the comment was an analyst or something and not a representative from Rockstar.  He was commenting on how the exclusivity contract expires in 2004 and took it a step further to say that they will sell great on GC and XBox.  Unfortunately, it's still entirely hypothetical.  Sony can still draw up new contracts.  Rockstar might not want to waste their time on ports of old games, and everyone will be focusing on the next generation by then anyways.  Sorry to burst your bubble, but this isn't news.

Thanks for the correction, Daniel. Still, if *I* were Rockstar, I'd make release GTA across all 3 platforms as soon as the deal expired, especially considering how insanely well it sold on the PS2.

i would have to agree
rockstar would be dumb if they didnt re-release the gta series on the other consoles
it would help them make more money
the games are alright if you ask me, but not the best around (i own vice on ps2)
the reason why i keep picking up vice is actually for the music
it is fun to go around and run over people while listening to 80s pop music (i'm looking in the direction of "japanese boy")
i call the big one bitey.

If I was Rockstar I wouldn't bother with ports.  Instead I would try to make deals with the console makers to each get their own exclusive GTA game.  GTA right now is like the American equivalent of Dragon Quest.  It sells consoles and regardless of what platform it's on it will be a hit.  If an exclusive GTA game came out for the Gamecube I'll bet Gamecube sales would rise considerably.  All three console makers know this so Rockstar can play hardball with them.  When the Sony exclusive deal runs out GTA is like a hot free agent.  Rockstar can play "what will you give us for the next GTA game" with the console makers and thus get themselves a good deal.

If I was Nintendo I'd be sucking up the Rockstar to try to get the first post-Sony exclusive period GTA game.  I'm not sure what Nintendo can offer that MS and Sony can't but it's still something they should try.  Maybe the ability for Rockstar to work with Nintendo and improve some of the GTA game mechanics (like aiming) would be a good incentive.  Anyway if Nintendo could get an exclusive GTA game as a launch title for their next console and that console launched the same year as the competition they would have a huge advantage.

Screw the ports, I want a new GTA Exclusive game to play and brag to my friends about.  If they didn fix the game mechanics Nintendo might be able to help out.  It still would be awesome, and working with Nintendo, they could work on the glitches that are in the Gta games right now.

>> GTA exclusive with Nintendo <<

Now that is something that will NEVER happen! Yeah instead of cashing in BIG TIME with multiplatform..... go exclusive with the third place console known as a kiddy console. EVEN if Nintendo wanted to go all out and TRY to bid for exclusivity..... Nintendo has the leanest and shallowest pockets of all three. In a bidding contest...... Microsoft has more money than Sony and Nintendo COMBINED and then some.

As for GTA coming to GC & Xbox in 2004....... REALLY who is really going to care by then? TWO year old games with crappy PS2 graphics and PS2 limiting play. Rockstar would have to seriously upgrade GTA3 & VC and THEN sell them both for $50 to seriously move any units. Their best bet if just saying ' screw it ' and release GTA4 to both platforms after their exclusivity agreement ends. Getting GTA3 in 2004 would be like getting something hella worse than sloppy seconds..... more like sloppy, grimy, disgusting old millions. Who wants that?

Whoa! Take a deep breath and relax.  Rockstar better make GTA3 and Vice City a lot better (better graphics, and the ability to jump out of the car you jacked on GTA3), if not, $50 wouldnt justify buying these games when you can get a used PS2 copy at EB for about $25.  The games will sell extremely well on Xbox and Gamecube.  More money for Rockstar...

Imagine it Nintendo did get Rockstar to make an exclusive GTA game for the next Nintendo system, Sony and M$ would eat GC2's or Nexus's or whatevers dust.

Release GTA4 on all platforms? huh....GTA4 is GTA3, and is exclusive to PC and PS2 for now.

The next GTA game will be GTA6 (tentative title of course) for PS2, then the deal will end. So GTA7 will be up for grabs...

In case you guys are dumb or something:
Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto: London 1959 (or 1969 or something)
Grand Theft Auto 2
Grand Theft Auto 3
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
So we have 5 GTA games....sure number then in whatever order, but the next one will be #6...
