I hate to kick a dead horse, but what were the sales numbers for these games on GC compared to XBOX? I don't really like the games, besides NHL2k3, but how could the sales be hugely different for these 2 systems? I find it hard to believe that they sold great anywhere, and to take them off just the GC seems like a pretty stupid move to me. They should at least recognize that NHL2k4 will sell, as its better than EA's franchise. It just doesn't seem to be a good busisness move to cut ALL sports games for one console.

Sega pretty much got clobbered all around, but the GCN sales were really terrible.

it may sound extreme, but i really think they may want to shut off all sports development.....i really dont think they will ever overtake madden. i mean stick with hockey, cuz that is something they are good at...and, and maybe bball too. but they cant honestly think they can beat ea. they are wasting tiem and money. they need to go back to making their japanese style games.

I've thought that too, or at least they should cut back to releasing when they have something new and interesting to put out, instead of just trying to milk the yearly sports cow. If there were sports games out you knew could stand the test of time for more than a year, I'm more willing to buy... like Mario Tennis or even Winning Eleven.

Wow, those numbers are a lot lower than I expected, for all three systems. They really did get their doors blown off. I know why NHL 2k3 didnt sell, cant find it anywhere. I guess Sega knows what they're doing....

None of the Gamecube numbers even cracked a hundred thousand. Goes to tell you something about overall sports sales for the GCN.

How did EA's sports games sell on all three consoles?

I can't believe Madden only sold 200k. I could have swore it was over 400k. I guess sports games dont sell as well as I thought.

Sega Sports should reconsider their current position. Cutting off GCN support will not do much, if you ask me. Madden still kills all traditional sports games, especially on the PS2.

The Omen: The 2002 edition of Madden for the GCN sold 325,000 copies, maybe that's what you are thinking of. An interesting thing I noticed about the 2002 editions versus the 2003 editions: Both of the 2003 versions of Madden for XBox and PS2 sold more than the 2002 versions. On Gamecube, the 2002 edition, so far, has sold more than the 2003 edition.

really ill tell you ea is genious....they said they were going to cancel their sports games for gamecube, sega follows suit and actually does, ea comes back and says they'll be heavilly supporting gamecube with connectability features. Now the question is which system seems to be perfect for ea's online network....? Also, don't you think the real reason EA said that they'd cancell the sports games was because they knew Sega would just copy them?

While EA's sports games also have lower slaes in comparison their PS2 and X-box versions on GC, the sales are still high enough to justify the port. I mean Sega's sales were horrendous on GC. Part of it was lack of interest and part of it was their fault. I know that from my personal experience I bought Madden 2003 and NBA Live 2003 because they actually came out the same day as the PS2 and X-box versions. I wanted the buy the Sega versions but they always came out a week or two after the PS2 and X-box versions.

Thats true, i went to get NHL2K3, and it wasnt released until over a month after the XBOX and PS2 versions...just ridiculous

Much of the problem has to do with the stores and how many copies they order..not how many they sell. Best Buy here locally was always out of the Gamecube version on release, but usually because they only seemed to have about 5 copies. NCAA Football for instance had four copies the first day...then sold out and they didn't get anymore in for over two weeks. I asked the sales associate and they were like "Yeah, it's on order". It's hard to sell anything when you come out with your product several weeks after a competing version, and have almost zero product on the shelf. Those number for NCAA Basketball are a joke for Sega. Sega pulled that game off of the store shelves (for GCN) and never restocked it. Those 4,000 copies sold in just a day or so.

They could very easily put that on the Shelves for 19.99 like EA does and make money on it. They don't. No clue Why.

No, I don't think Sega cancelled their lineup just because EA threatened to. Because, very simply, that would help business. If there is a GC owner who doesnt have any other console and he likes sports games. If there is only one game to choose from and he really wants that sports game, he will buy it. Sega would've had this advantage. However, they got out and it wasn't because EA threatened to, it was because they were losing money, and obviously alot of it.

You also must remember Nintendo made a deal with EA to bring 20 games to GC, including help from Shiggy himself. Without it and EA probably would of scaled back the sports games they bring to GC. My guess is Nintendo saw the possibilty of losing both of them so went to bat and made a deal so they still had at least one of them making sports games for GC.

And I don't call 2.5 million units of Madden sold on PS2 "pretty bad" sales.

Yeah, and you could say a million sales for a PC game isn't much considering how many TENS of millions of people own a PC, but you have to consider that 1 million copies is incredible for a PC game. Just because there's more PS2's out there than how many copesi of Madden were sold doesn't make 2.5 million bad at all. In fact, very few Nintendo games have come close to that in recent times. It's STILL 2.5 million copies at that's STILL a sh!tload of games sold.

I was just pointing out percentages...which I think are close on all consoles. 2.5 is still a great amount, correct.
