Maybe I should change to Wii, mainly because I can play all of my GameCube games on the Wii anyways.

With the obvious #1 and #2 out of the way, I'm interested in what comes up as #3.  I had a hard time deciding, but finally settled on the GameCube.

Same here. The SNES, DS and Gamecube are the 3 systems I would have the hardest giving up. I can honestly say that I if I had to give up all other Nintendo systems and could only play the games released for those three systems, I'd be ok with that.

And how about you? Favourite Nintendo 64 games?

I don't think the logic of which games you can play on Wii should apply, because you can also play games from NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, and many other systems. Sure, unlike GameCube you have to pay to play those, but still, I'd judge it by the games made specifically for it.

Ogre Battle 64 (naturally  ;) ), The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Tooie, Jet Force Gemini, and Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness.  There are other games I have enjoyed over the years, but I don't enjoy them as much anymore (Donkey Kong 64, Goldeneye 007, Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64, Conker's Bad Fur Day, etc.).  I know I'm forgetting something, though...

Was Castlevania really that good? I've been curious of it but I heard it was terrible. Or am I mixing up the first one and that second 'directors cut' version?

Neither version of Castlevania 64 (and for the record, the one I like is the second "Director's Cut": Legacy of Darkness) is generally well-regarded, though I enjoyed both of them at the time.  Both games have severe camera problems and some annoying platforming.  Still, the atmosphere is generally excellent, the action is decent, and the music is as good as ever.  They're not great games, but I don't think they're as bad as people say they are.  I think people generally are just inclined to hate them because (a) they're not 2D and (b) they're not Symphony of the Night.

Speaking of Symphony of the Night, I have that on my PS3 and I really should get around to playing that...

I think the Virtual Console does count to a certain degree since it contains a lot of great games that people never got to play and are virtually impossible for anyone to find now a days.

Being able to buy something like Sin and Punishment for only $11 would not have been possible for over 99.9% of people before the Wii came out.  Same thing with some of the TurboGraphic CD games like Ys and Lords of Thunder.  These things used to cost over $100 dollars by themselves only 5 years ago on Ebay, which was the only way to find them, but now can be easily bought for around 10 bucks.

So even though these games are not technically Wii games, the fact that the Wii is the only legal way to buy and play them for a price that won't cost you a Kidney makes it a valid part of the Wii when comparing it to other Nintendo systems.

It still isn't a Wii game. It is up to the individual to decide their reasons for their voting choice, but I don't subscribe to that logic.

I know I'm forgetting something, though...
Everyone always forgets something! But it's interesting how most people don't go beyond Nintendo-published titles, because I feel there's a lot out there no one recognizes due to the lack of "Nintendo" on the box. Though you mention Castlevania, which is a nice surprise. I also get the feeling that people rated it low because of the changes to the formula. It's actually the game I'll be playing next, and the remake right after, I look forward to trying them.

Ok, lets get this straight.  This poll is the BEST NINTENDO SYSTEM.  Not best series of games for a system.

We are looking at what the entire system has to offer and voting which is the best system and offers the best most exciting contents, games, features.  And the Virtual Console as well as the WiiWare service are outstanding features to the Wii.  And was a feature that was supported day one.

What other Nintendo system can you play Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, and Turbo Graphics 16 games on?  That is right none, unless they were ported later.  So the feature and all those games available for download at a reduced price, with brand new save features with game pausing should count towards the features of the system and therefore the ranking of the system.

I know when I voted DS I was looking at the complete package of the DS...including the models that let you play the gameboy advance games.

Features are features...and in this contest it should be valued into the vote.

I could give up the Gamecube easily.  To me the 3 Nintendo Systems that are the hardest to give up are the DS lite, SNES, and Wii.

All 3 of those systems are amazing and represent the best of Nintendo's past, future, and portability.

Like I said, it is up to the individual to decide their reasons for voting. If those are the reasons behind your choices, then that's fine, but you don't speak for everyone. I, myself, couldn't care less about the features of a system, or what games it is capable of playing, I judge a system based on its exclusive games. This would include things like WiiWare and DSiWare games, but backwards compatibility and the Virtual Console are not relevant. To me, the exclusives define the system.

I'm actually a little surprised that the Wii got so many votes, considering its numbers in the previous two polls. Oh well, it was going to be my second pick, so this doesn't matter to me. I'm actually glad a good number of other people out there feel it has a lot of good games, because there are a lot of games on it I like, myself.

I'm kind of surprised to see Wii place already. I was under the impression everyone here hated it... well not really, but they seem to criticize an awful lot! Hate the one you love?

Voted for the original NES.

The game library, the history of established franchises that were created on that system, and the sheer longevity of the system makes it a winner in my book.  Plus, if you look back the system has so many classics that are still loved and cherished today like no other system.

I am surprised to see Nintendo 64 get so much respect and love.  I mean it was a great system, but the history of the Nintendo 64 people see it as the starting decline of Nintendo's popularity because the medium they chose was so expensive.

I personally had no problem with carts back then, but I remember they were expensive.  Still my vote was for the NES for reasons I posted.  I am will be happy if N64 wins this round though.
