Number 2 for me would be the DS, which by that logic would require me to be even younger.

No, because DS is the best handheld system without question.  The best console generally depends on which one was current when you were between the ages of 12 to 18.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Really, the Pokemon Mini was included? OK, I don't think it will do well though.

Oh **** you, UncleBob.  Pokemon Mini?  Get that **** out of here.  Might as well include each individual Game & Watch title.

What?  It's a system, by Nintendo, that plays games and has interchangeable media.

Should have included the e-Reader...

I was torn between SNES and N64. I went with N64 because of the multiplayer awesomeness. This is going to be a hard poll overall.

I'm not sure if age necessarily has anything to do with it, but I do think that the system which provided the most "firsts" for a person is the most likely one to be their favourite. Interestingly, my second pick would also be a current system (Wii), so perhaps a person's second choice is their real favourite system?

Well then my favorite should be the GameCube, which was released when I was 13 and current until I was 18.

I'm older than you insanolord? That is a little depressing.

I love the N64, but the SNES has more of my favorite games (although my favorite games are on GameCube and Wii).

****--so much for that theory.  I'm honestly surprised you like the N64 that much.  Personally, I love the N64--it was released when I was 16 so its multiplayer focus took up much of my high school gaming carrier--although not as much as I love the SNES (which came out when I was 11).

The thing with me and the SNES is I never owned one, and neither did any of my closest friends, so I barely played the system, and so I have zero nostalgia for it. Combine that with the fact that since I've been able to play SNES games via GBA and the VC, I've discovered that I really don't like two of its biggest games, Super Mario World and Zelda: LTTP, and it's pretty much my least favorite Nintendo console.

I was 9 when the Nintendo 64 launched, and 14 when the GameCube launched. The GameCube is actually near the bottom of my list; beyond SSBM and Metroid Prime there isn't all that much on it I felt was special.

The e-Reader was an add-on, so then you'd have to include the 64DD, Famicom Disc System, and possibly even the Game Boy Printer...?

Just barely. By the sound of it, Vudu is 30, so at least you got that beat easily.

With the GameCube, it seems like, for the most part (and with Melee being a huge exception), its games were inferior to their N64 counterparts. I'd definitely take the N64's Mario and Zeldas over the Cube's. But then you've got things like Metroid and Pikmin, which weren't on the N64 and were amazing on the GameCube. Plus the Cube had a better third party lineup within a year than the entire life of the N64.

I think it's just because people were so found of the SNES. Tough, I guess maybe GameCube.

Just a minor thing, but it's not the "Nintendo Wii".

And it's "GameCube Nintendo" (GCN).   :P:

As for this new poll, I'm not sure what I'll vote for.  Some of my favorite games were on the GC (Rogue Squadron II, Skies of Arcadia Legends, Baten Kaitos Origins), yet I find myself playing my favorite N64 games more often.  I've maybe used the backwards compatibility feature on my Wii a couple times, yet I have played a fair bit of N64 Virtual Console.  Hmmm... :-\

I think the fans have pretty much renamed the 'Gamecube Nintendo' to Nintendo Gamecube. It was a bizarre naming format.

It was always Nintendo GameCube. Why Nintendo had the official abbreviation be "GCN" is unknown (though there is plenty of speculation).

I was merely saying that it's just "Wii", not "Nintendo Wii".

With SNES out, I wonder if NES will get some votes this time.

Actually, it's "Wii console".  I remember a marketing Q & A that NOA put out right before the launch that said the system should always be referred to as the "Wii console".

Had to vote for the DS/DSi. The original DS and the DS Lite play GBA games, so that knocks the GBA itself down a peg or two. The DS is just an extremely versitile system. Gotta love it.

This is a hard vote for me for second.  I voted for DS/DSi, but I really wanted to vote for the Wii.  I think that may be my vote for 3rd best console.

My voting so far would say:

SNES,  DS,  Wii, NES, N64, Gameboy Advance

According to Nintendo Power magazine, they went with "GCN" because "NGC" was already trademarked.

I'm really not surprised that the Super NES won, and not just because it's often mentioned as people's favourite. That era really was a golden age of gaming, brought on by Nintendo and Sega constantly trying to outdo one another. Like Ian Sane said in another thread, the Super NES was the first time that hardware limitations didn't get in the way of game design. And that's why its games will stand the test of time.
