I hate the controls in the DS games, so I don't care either way. I am surprised they finished last though.

The people voting for Spirit Tracks probably haven't played it.  They just didn't like Phantom Hourglass so they assume Spirit Tracks is better.

They are mistaken.

Spirit Tracks has been OK. The train parts can be fun but the game feels too linear. It seems to squash the sense of exploration the series has been known for.

I voted Phantom Hourglass solely because of the multiplayer as I feel the single player is lacking. Too rehashed for my liking. The customizable vehicles are pretty neat though.

I though it was going to be Metroid next. There was a request in the thread about it.

I think it was discussed before that the next series is going to be Castlvania. Metroid was also a strong candidate I recall.

The only thing I recall being discussed was Metroid.

If I did Mario... whew. Would Luigi's Mansion count? Wario Land 2/3/4?  Super Mario Land 3/Wario Land 1?  Yoshi's Island?  Yoshi's Story? Does Super Mario Bros DX. for the GBC count as enough of a separate release?  Could be interesting.

Metroid would be pretty straight forward to do.  And wouldn't take *too* long.

I'm not much of a Castlevania fan - I could pull a list from Wikipedia or some such, but if Castlevania is the next round, I'd let a Castlevania fan take the reigns of it.

So, it's all said and done.  Whacha think?
Surprised that Spirit Tracks beat Phantom Hourglass.  I think it's a better game, but the fact that it went the previous 14 rounds and only got one vote kinda surprised me.

Link's Awakening should have been first. :p

What should we do next?  I'm interested in the results of a similar Mario Poll, but I dread putting that list together and running it.  This one took over a month as it was.

I went with Mario Kart.  This doesn't mean we can't come back to one of the other options later (or next?) - I think Mario Kart would be a nice change, since there's only 6 games, it would be done in about two weeks - if we stick with the current set up.

Which brings me to the next question - two days for voting... Is that enough?  I feel like any more and the thread will go stale pretty quick.  Even more so with larger a series like Zelda or Mario.  But, there's been some concern about weekend polls.  Perhaps polls that would run Saturday-Sunday should become three-day polls, running Saturday-Sunday-Monday?

Also, if you choose other for the poll, mention your series of choice here and I'll probably put it up in the poll. :)

I could have sworn Castlvania was discussed. Maybe it was only mentioned in passing in a different thread.

I like the sound of Mario Kart. It's not been done to death and each game has good strengths and some weaknesses so it will be fun to see what happens.

Are there really only 6 titles? Feels like more but that may be due to the once per-system and the longevity of the series.

Super Mario Kart
Mario Kart 64
Double Dash
Super Circuit (thats the GBA one, right?)
DS
Wii

Hmm...

You forgot the two arcade games. Mario Kart GP 1 and 2. I played the first one and it was pretty fun. Plus it had a ton of extra items and such.

Yeah go with Mario Kart.  There's not that many games in the series so it'll be a nice break after Zelda since a Mario Kart poll wont take long.

If I did Mario... whew. Would Luigi's Mansion count? Wario Land 2/3/4?  Super Mario Land 3/Wario Land 1?  Yoshi's Island?  Yoshi's Story? Does Super Mario Bros DX. for the GBC count as enough of a separate release?  Could be interesting.

If you do a Mario Platformer poll, only do the Mario platformers were you actually play as Mario.  Even though Yoshi's Island and Wario Land 1 both have the Mario name in the title, both games are really the start of Yoshi and Wario's own separate series.  The only reason both games contain the Super Mario name in the title was so it could help both series get off the ground.  This is why the sequel to both games, Yoshi's Story and Wario Land VB no longer have Mario in the title.

Luigi's Mansion isn't a platformer so it shouldn't be counted at all.

On the issue of Super Mario Bros DX, I'd say don't count it for the same reason I would also say not to count Mario-All Stars and the Mario Advance releases.  It'll just create a giant mess and split a lot of the results.  If say SMB3 got the most people voting for it in a certain round, but all the votes got split between the Original, All-Star and Advance versions of it and as a result something like Land 1 ends up winning over it because all it's votes went to it's only version, that wouldn't make a very good poll now would it.

I'd say for a Mario Platformer poll, just include Super Mario Bros 1-3 (count both American and Japanese version of SMB2), World, Land 1-2, NSMB DS and Wii, 64, Sunshine, and finally Galaxy 1-2.  This way it'll be simple and to the point and we won't have to get into arguments about different version of certain games messing up the results.

I think the Mario platformers would be interesting.  The Metroid series and Mario Kart are both kind of short, and therefore, wouldn't be as interesting.

The Mario platformers that is some serious debating going on.  And would be a blast.

You are wrong, at least if that was based on quality. Double Dash is better than the original, but this Zelda poll showed that posters don't always vote based on quality (otherwise The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess would have both been in the top 5).

Stratos, I am not sure if the arcade games can really be included. The second one never got released here, and even the first one was barely even available because of how few arcades still exist (there wasn't a single Mario Kart Arcade GP cabinet within 100 miles of me and I live in one of the biggest cities in New York).

I went with Metroid, but either of the Mario ones would be OK.

I'd almost put money on MK64 coming out on top.

but this Zelda poll showed that posters don't always vote based on quality

It's not about "quality", keep that in mind.  The question was "Your favorite?", not "The best?" :D

Sorry, but you're wrong.  MK64 and MK Wii would split the vote amongst console gamers and the DS version would take top honors.

If you do Mario Platformers I think you have to include Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island, and its gameboy advance version.  Those are both official Mario games....however Yoshi's Island 2 and Yoshi's Story are not Mario platformers.

So I would include:

Super Mario Bros 1-3
Super Mario All Star
Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Land 2
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
New Super Mario Bros.
New Super Mario Bros Wii
Super Mario Bros for Gameboy Color
Super Mario Bros Advance 1-3

Though I believe you could drop Super Mario All Stars since it is a collection of games, and then combine the advance games with the originals...and it can be just about the core game experience.  That might be better for the series series polls.

For me I think I will go:

Super Circuit
Wii
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario Kart Double Dash
Super Mario Kart Arcade Games
