Topic: NWR event coverage

I was just wondering what everybody here wants out of our event coverage.  Sometimes we're short-staffed and can't provide everything all at once, but we'd like to keep you as satisfied as possible.  Pick your top three options (I'm not listing trailers/screenshots/news as an option because those are a given).

On-floor updates
-Nice, but unnecessary.  I mean, it's not like a lot of us will just be sitting here hitting refresh for instant updates.

Videos
Photos
Live audio/video
-You know, unless it's something I'm *really* excited about, I don't tend to watch the videos or view the photos.  And, generally, they suck unless they're videos/photos provided by the company.  In which case, everyone's showing them everywhere.

Game impressions
-I voted for this one.  Ultimately, it's what I care about.

Interviews
-This is my other vote.  No matter what every other site is showing, the interviews offered by each individual site will give different info.

Press conference live blogs
-Again, nice, but most of us aren't going to be here hitting refresh all day long.  Did like the Twitter updates though...

I be happy if you guys used that free live blog software that I linked to in the Summit Blog thread. None of us would have to hit refresh and you can add pics and comments as time passes. we could just leave the screen up and be instantly updated.

NWR needs to get up on this live blog software. Its nice and quick.

Maybe a free NWR UStream account (http://www.ustream.tv/) so we can watch live whatever you are broad casting (can you stream live from your cell phone with unlimited data?)

I don't know if the second one is possible, but the first one should definitely be up on the discussion table next time NWR has a staff meeting (hopefully before GDC )

Uh, you didn't have to hit refresh.  Our live blog updated automatically.  I'm working on something for pictures, and we'll have to decide if we want to allow live commenting.

We already have video streaming set up and have offered it in the past, but the thing is, it's often disallowed at events, which is why I opted for audio streaming at the Media Summit.  Maybe it will be possible at E3.  Until recently, we usually didn't have the hardware for it (i.e. tethering).

Did you guys use live blog for the Summit?
all I saw was the audio stream and when I tried it, it didn't work, and then the site didn't work for about 5-10 minutes, so I looked elsewhere. That's how I ran across the demandmedia thing(it supports pics).

As far as Live commenting, do they automatically stream into the live blog or is there an option to approve certain comments that will show up before they stream?

There were some technical problems at the beginning, but it worked great after we came back up.  Pic support is trivial.  Actually getting the pics to the site in real time is the bigger problem.

I'm not sure what we'll do with the live commenting, if anything.  I saw it being used on sites for the USA-Canada hockey match and thought it might be interesting.

I've seen it on ESPN for all sorts of sporting events. They'll have different journalists going back and forth about the game with (I assume approved) comments showing up and then being commented on.

I missed this when it went up.
I chose game impressions and interviews, as those are usually what I am interested in most (and also plain news, which might be covered under "on-floor updates"). I don't care for live coverage such as blogs or video feeds, as that stuff tends to happen when I am at work or otherwise unavailable. I rarely look at photos or videos.

As an aside, if you want better feedback, I would suggest posting polls like this on the main site. I don't think very many people check this portion of the forums. I mean, it took me three weeks before I noticed this.

I'm a huge fan of impressions and interviews too, Mop.  Impressions are of paramount importance because they aren't just facts and figures, or a running video about a game.  They communicate how somebody FEELS while they're playing a game, which is most important above everything else.  If a game looks great but has shitty controls, that's something people want to know!  And it's hard to communicate that in a video unless you have an ongoing commentary, which can be grating.

Interviews are best when you have the time to ask some very detailed questions that have been tailored to what your audience wants to know.

Yup chose impressions too, if one conveys that FEELING as Mr. Diamond states then we learn so much....

But with the hands on guy he says..." as  you press left and right on the d-pad, she traverses these obstacles automatically and shoots the nearst enemy as I press 1..."
