I see that BlackNMild is online so he can focus on todays events.
Oh for those not in the know. Megabyte will be livebloging the event. Just check the Blog section. GoNintendo will likely have one as well.
20 minutes till it starts.

Rather than split our discussion between two threads, I propose we use the Live Blog thread to discuss the event while it's ongoing and then switch to this thread for summaries, post event discussion, etc.

Dragon Quest IX due at some point during the Summer, published by Nintendo.  Official press release deems it so, even if they didn't mention a date at the summit.

Ugh, is the free Nintendo points really for preordering at Gamestop?  I think I hate that store so much I may actually fulfill the "you can't pay me to shop there" saying and buy the game somewhere else.

So we get Mario Galaxy 2, Sin and Punishment 2 and Metroid: Other M all within a month basically from May-June.  Oh yeah, this confirms Zelda Wii is coming out in November this year.

Not to mention since all this games that were shown at last years E3 are being released before or a little after E3 this year, it means E3 2010 will be filled with pretty much 95% new content.  I mean, besides Xenoblade, everything else from last years E3 has now been given a release date in North America now going up until the end of Q2.  Meaning we now have no idea what will be released in Q3 and Q4, except for Zelda which is now a lock for Q4.

All we know is that if it is coming, it wouldn't be by June.
Only 1stHalf releases were discussed today(with the exception of Disney's Guilty Party).

I believe someone else pointed out elsewhere that you can get a $10 credit for pre-ordering Tri on Amazon. That's double what you get at GS and it doesn't violate your moral code ;)

This ridiculous hate GamStop gets needs to stop. I swear that half the people online who bash them do it only because it's "cool" to do so (like bashing Microsoft, calling Nintendo kiddy, etc.) They are not a bad store.

Some more details from a Live Blog on SMG2 Demo:
Quote
Yoshi! As seen in the trailer -- I know this isn't new, but it's still awesome. Mario rides around on Yoshi. You move with the analog stick still. The pointer controls Yoshi's tongue, which can stretch all over the place and interact with objects. Yoshi eats a blimp fruit, changes into an aqua blue variation, and then floats through the air, his mouth a makeshift exhaust. This is very cool stuff. Mario and Yoshi are flying around a tree-world. Now the angle has shifted to reveal a 2D platformer. Seems like there's going to be much more of this in the sequel -- very welcomed.

They are not a bad store.
Yes they are.  Their employees are jackasses more often than not.  Their customers are just as bad.  They routinely overcharge for DS games and Wii peripherals.  They try to upsell you on products and services you don't want.  When you say you don't want them the employees don't take a hint and keep pushing.  I hate the store and only shop there as a last resort.

This is how 95% of all chains in America operate. It's really not a big deal. I like video games. I also like low prices. Sometimes Gamestop has the lowest price, which is why I sometimes shop there guilt free. Hating Gamestop is trendy and silly. I'd be willing to bet the vast majority of those that refuse to shop there shop at other stores who adopt the same practices.

Best Buy and Target employees don't have a personality.  They're register monkeys.  I'll take that any day over an asshole GameStop employee.  They might ask me if I want to sign up for a store credit card or an Entertainment Weekly subscription but when I say no they don't ask again.

I haven't checked prices at stores lately because usually I'll just buy stuff online, but there have been several DS games that sold for $29.99 at most major retailers that GameStop tried selling for $34.99.  Canvas Curse is one that comes to mind.  GameStop also sells both the Wii Zapper and MotionPlus for $24.99 even though every other store on the face of the earth sells them for $19.99.

I have been in many different GameStop's and interacted with hundreds of employees, the number who were bad or jackasses was like 1% (lower than most retail stores i've been in). The number of bad customers is lower (the ones who are are usually like high school kids, which is why I try to avoid GameStop in the afternoons since that is when they are usually there. From my experience, most Wii and DS accessories are about the same as other retail stores. I don't know when the last time you were in a GameStop, but the employees don't "push" anything on you (they ask me ONE time if I want to buy a protection plan, I say "no" and they don't try to push anything else. Again, this is about the SAME that most retail stores do). Maybe people should actually try going to the store instead of basing thei opinions on old info or what they hear on the Internet, and avoid the bad ones. As for the Wii Zapper, what are you smoking? I know the MSRP is $20, but most stores (not just GameStop) sell it for $25, including Best Buy and Barnes & Noble.

I see D_Average pretty much answered this already too.

They charge 54.99 for the pink and blue remote+motion plus set too.

With the exception of one gs (and a second one that more recently went bad with newer turnover) I have not had good experiences at gs. So I just stopped going there. I don't hate them because they are cool, I don't even really 'hate' them. I just find myself as a customer dissatisfied with my experiences there overall so I choose to take my business elsewhere. Wal-Mart, Fred Meyers, most Game Crazies and local indie shops along with my personal favorite -Amazon- give me what I want with less hassle and less issues.

~~Back on topic~~
I notice that most if not all of these games were previously known about. There were no new reveals. So GDC and even more so E3 are going to be huge.

Outside of a few 'Japan-only-at-this-point' titles there is almost no other game announced to be on the horizon. Very exciting and I hope that excitement and expectation is met in some way.

You're using Barnes & Noble as an example?  The company that charges $18 for a CD?
