Sorry for the ditch, but my gf got on her lunch break right at that moment. I'm coming back on now after a distraction of calling 911 for a fireworks spawned fire next to my apartment. It's crazy, these kids have been launching fireworks around the park and my street the past two days.

Rachtman I am probably going to open up a room at Noon PST on Saturday.
If you want to meet up earlier then I can go for that if I am awake then. I have my 2 other hunters already so there won't be anymore room.

Hey Maxi, something came up and I don't think I'm going to be able to make it at 8.  I'll probably be on a little later 10ish.  Sorry for the last minute bail.

S'alright, mate. I'm just glad you're still playing! So many members have disappeared...

Just stopping by to let you know why you have not seen me online in Tri.

My three year old Wii crashed a few weeks ago.  I drove up to Nintendo (only 30 minutes from me) with the Wii wrapped in a Spock burial robe to see if they could resurrect it or at very least recover my data.  An hour and half later the tech gave me the bad news.  They couldn't recover any of my data (game saves, Mii's, message board, photo channel images, friends in address book, game stats history).

They ended up providing me with a new Wii, a year warranty and no charge on the repair.

So, I lost quite a bit of data.  Many game saves that I failed to back up to SD card.  But, most saddening was the fact that I had lost the many game saves that Nintendo doesn't allow to be saved to SD card (Monster Hunter Tri, Smash Bros Brawl, The Conduit, Endless Ocean and I think Mario Kart to name a few).

I had around 120 hours invested in Tri and I just can't see my self starting over from scratch and building up a new character again.

I really enjoyed hanging out with many of you.  Well, see ya around and perhaps I'll meet up with some of you in other online games down the road.

That's just upsetting. I hope you underscored the issue that a lot of your data was lost permanently because it could not be backed up. Ridiculous that it doesn't let you save something. This might be a long shot, but perhaps you could contact Capcom with your codes and hunter ID and maybe they could create some type of new account for you? If not the same one maybe they could create a new character for you at a similar level with one set of your gear and a weapon?

If you ever do decide to try and restore your status the long way count me in for the grindfest.

That's awesome that you live close to Nintendo HQ! I do too, but they have never allowed tours. It was cool to drive by them as a kid. You should have requested an opportunity to shop in their company store. Maybe they would have been nice to you because of your lost data.

~Heading online now.

Hey Neighbor!  I guess I should of asked for some Nintendo plushies - they had a whole bin full of them.  I was in a state of shock, so didn't really know what to think at the time.

Nintendo really needs to improve their data management policies and allow the consumer to be able to save ALL their data for backup (or just automatically save it in Nintendo cloud storage). There should be a built-in utility that auto saves all data to SD card - similar to what the techs use.

I suspect they prevent online game save data from being saved to SD card as they are afraid of hackers modifying the data (pretty sure hackers have found a way around this anyway).  Limiting data backup for the legitimate consumer is NOT the correct approach to counter hackers.

That's a real shame. I can understand why you wouldn't feel like playing anymore after that; I doubt I would, either. It was enjoyable while it lasted!

Actually, I think it has to do with friend codes. Bad things could happen if two systems log online with the same code.

There are a select few online games which allow you to copy their data, but will delete the online portion from the copy. Who knows why they aren't all this way. In any case, there's an unofficial way to backup your data, if you're interested... though it would void your warranty.

Come to think of it I once downloaded someone's unofficial save data when I was too lazy to unlock everything on my own. Never thought about how it was done in the first place...

I'll be on shortly.
