Topic: Post malfunctions..... it can't just be me.

I just typed up a post and sent it. all was good. (Hi I'm new thread)

I went back to edit and add something, but when I clicked submit, it erased almost everything I added and even half of what was already there.

I go back to edit it back in thinking that maybe I hit a wrong button, and carefully click the save/post button and nothing changed. I edit it again, being very aware of every button I touch, and it does it again.

what is going on?

at first it was the forum software with the random [tag] being inserted all over the place (news stories are having the same problem with run away tags) and needing to constantly edit the post to get it all right, but now it's affecting the amount of letters that appear in my post.

It can't be my computer, I have installed nothing new and constantly virus/spyware check. Is anybody else having any of these problems?

Which edit button are you using--the one that opens the modify message page or the one that edits the post in the thread page?

I'm noticing that going through the post preview causes a lot of glitches to appear in the post. characters like ' are followed by a backslash so it goes from " You're strange" to "You'/re strange". And if I click post preview again it keeps adding new backslashes after the character like this "You'//re strange" and I can do that a lot of times in a row. It also deletes random spaces I have so words are joined together.

It may have something to do with me copy-pasting from a word document but the backslash things happens when I don't use word.

I'll keep posting and if random post errors like the editor constantly changing/moving/adding tags to my post randomly keeps happening, I'll let you know in this thread.

I used to get this same problem but it only happened when I previewed PMs.  However, it hasn't happened for at least a couple weeks.

Here's something weird--it used to be when quoting someone I could type my response one line below the {/quote} and it would automatically insert a space between the quote and my response.  However, now when I do the same thing there is no space so I have to manually leave a blank line between the quote and the response.

I use the most recent version of Fire Fox. It happens in both PM and post previews.

I've dealt with this a lot so let me give you a few pointers on avoiding the ghost editor.

Start your post in the quick reply. Do all your copy/pasting and tag editing there.

Go into post preview before you type anything, hit the red A on the far right before you paste anything from a different source (unless you are trying to carry over links and some formatting) or add any tags of your own.

Just remember that 80% of the time this works everytime.

What does the red 'A' do?

Shows how the some of the post will be formatted without having to goto preview.

it is automatically on when you go into advanced/preview mode.
things that will show up when copy/pasted:
bold, italics, colors, size, bullet point, indentation, formatted spacing, links(including abbreviated links) and things of that sort.

those are all the things might get screwed up when you hit preview or try to edit your post afterwards if you don't fix them before submitting.

I have FireFox and I have never experienced any such problem. I don't think this is an issue with the forums, but rather your computer/broswer settings. Maybe some plugin is causing the problem?

you don't use [tags], quotes from other sites or post (abbreviated)links, so of course you wouldn't have this issue.

I've done all of those before. Never had an issue.

We can test this. Give me something to post.
